That's awesome! I wonder if she was reading Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky in Russian as well. And how many languages she (and Flynn) know. Or does Flynn have to know the language (i.e. French) to make it manifest in the Grid? Which would mean that pre-sage Flynn was bilingual, which I never would have considered previously. |
My guess is no, no Russian. Sam looks at the bookshelf and reads off the authors, so unless he reads Russian, those books were probably in English. Ah, no, they are in English; see
Crime and Punishment in the foreground:

^See in this pic that he's also got
Pollyanna (to the very left). Strange choice. Also notice that in the nearer pile of books lying on their side, under what looks like another quartz pyramid, the top book almost looks like the title on the spine is in some Asian language? I could be wrong though as it's so blurry.
And I believe she's reading other Verne in English:

Of course, it's also possible that the only edition of the book that had the look of the binding that they wanted was in French and they hoped we wouldn't notice... but I find that unlikely as it seems we purposely got a closeup. Perhaps they mean that to be part of why the Isos are "wise," because they know other languages (which could have been picked up from any language programs loaded into the system, I suppose)? I would find it hard to believe that Flynn would know very many, though. Look, the dude was a smart computer geek, but it doesn't mean he's a genius at everything. Especially since many people I know who are smart in things like math and science, aren't so hot in the language department; it's not their focus. It's possible he may've picked up some French somewhere, studied it in school (or I guess if you have a thousand cycles, you can learn whatever the hell you want), but I doubt the dude knows multiple languages.
More screencaps (hard to read titles but the characters for most do look English):
Wuthering Heights in the foreground (why you'd want to rez in with that book is beyond me):

I think I see
Silas Marner (third from the left):

Is that a quartz point on the pile of books lying on their sides in the middle??

Also, continuity:
In this pic, there appears also to be a quartz pyramid in front of the pile of books lying on their side (hard to tell as it's glowing in the light but look close):

But in the pic above it's on top of the pile of books, next to the point.
It does look like Flynn has quartz all over his bookcase; I see points and pyramids, and way to the left, what looks like a cluster. I think he's getting some of his new-age stuff mixed up, but okay.
