and pretty soon you'll be sitting on a nonfunctional system you maintain just to keep the programs happy. |
Thing is, the programs on Flynns server are not so much programs as they are extremely advanced AI the programs in the less advanced encom server did not care aout being derezzed as long as it pleased the users.
They also had little to no personality and only cared about the jobs their users gave them , so it will be more dificult to care about those programs than to care about the programs on Flynn's new server. |
Actually, I don't see much difference between the programs in Legacy or the original. I think a good way to think of it is to view ourselves as the programs view us: as God. We order their lives, tell them what their purpose is, and when they have achieved it, and are no longer needed, we erase them, and sometimes reinstall them, and create and install new programs. I think that a program who has fulfilled his purpose would be happy to be deleted, because he would be fulfilled. A program with no purpose would be in torture, because the the thing he was created to do is done or being done. His life would have no meaning. I think the reason the programs in Legacy and the original film worried so much about life preservation was because they had not yet fulfilled their purpose.
