How to create an MCP style computer??

on Wednesday, June, 26, 2013 10:07 PM

Well I found this laser keyboard that projects onto my glass desk.
And it makes sounds when you touch the keys and type.
So I got the keyboard covered.
But how wold I go about getting a screen to appear on my desk like Dillengers did..
Or at least create that illusion???
here is the light up laser keyboard.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEuRSuLQrtkIt's great for working on and writing programs at night with the lights off..
and I can still see where I am typing etc..

Please let me know programs.

A SmartBoard-type projector, maybe? Mom uses it in her classroom and it connects to the computer....

{A very big thanks to FlynnOne for the pic! And to Wulfeous for sharpening the details!*huggles both*}

You can use a conventional monitor (old school CRT or a modern LCD/LED) if you are making a glass, lexan or plexiglass desk. Look into the Peppers Ghost effect.

I used it when I did effects for haunted houses and Halloween decorations with great effect. Read up on how it works on Wiki, and maybe check out some examples of the effect by searching it on youtube

There are a lot of how-tos online at making this work. Depending on your setup, you may need to run an app to mirror or reverse the display (hard to find these days, I recall a program called PVCMIRROR) . If using an LCD or OLED panel, you may be able to open it up, and physically flip around the panel inside to do this. I'm also sure that many Nvidia cards allow you to change settings for reflection, essentialy allowing you to reverse or mirror it's output.

Otherwise, you will need to reflect the image from your monitor off two mirrors (an extra mirror is employed to reverse the initial mirrored reflection, so it's oriented correctly)

Hope this helps. It's definitely doable, especially if your monitor is situated under a desk.

...and once again, I get logged out while posting a reply. I either need to type faster, or check "keep me logged in"

Anyways, Pepper's ghost is a good solution for what you want to do.

Almost forgot to mention that the ENCOM Video Pinball 2.0 machine uses it to great effect.

I can probably make make that, Just ask.

Wow thanks programs!

I will look into these methods.
I will be very happy with my laser keyboard and MCP style screen.

Also the original Microsoft Surface was a lot like Dillingers computer
and was a huge table top computer touch screen...

But they ended up selling the tablet version instead....

I don't need the net with me 247. The MCP is pleased when I come back early.
He didn't need to be connected to me everywhere I go lol

Oh, I have made many, many Microsoft Surface jokes concerning the MCP. Your feelings about the comparison will depend on your feelings about Microsoft...

What do you want? I'm busy.

Program, please!

Chaos.... good news.

I think Microsoft is evil.
But then again so was the MCP.

So they go hand in hand I think.
