I've only hosted a couple of time do to high pings but idealy you would want a high upload speed this is is not very accuret but to host some games you would want a upload speed of about 600 kbps and that would probably be able to handle 4-5 people I only have a upload speed of 128 kbps and I could only have 2 other people besides my self on the server. the higher the upload the more people you can handle and of course you would want a good system 1 gig cpu or higher a good amount of memory ect. Now you can always rent out a server and I think this is what most people do. Or you could get a t1 and buy a good server! this is not in most peoples bugget. I would host some small servers like 2-4 people including your self and if you have upload higher than 128 I would imagin that everyone would have 90-120 pings hope this helped out
