I just wish they would come out with a TRON 2.0 sequel that takes advantage of the GeForce 8 series! I'd even like to see it take advantage of PhysX, although, that might be kind of weird in the TRON world. |
What if they utilized the Source engine... |
It's interesting you brought that up, because a friend was talking about how much bandwidth Left 4 Dead uses, and it's the same as Tron 2.0.
Except in Left 4 Dead, 100 zombies are hitting you all at once with very little or no lag, no loss of quality in each frame, and so on.
They made that game engine really well.

When Half-life hit back in 1996 it was indeed a benchmark for gaming, the game that scored a record 98% is asounding, Gabe Newell did well to guide the company to excell when he overlooked the process of the game closely (ofcourse valve was kinda small back then) now, how do you puch the benchmark of a game that scored 98% and live upto the hype? half Life 2 had to be a big game, an impressive looking one, and above all.. replayable no matter what.
the Source Engine acomplishes so much where if you watch the commentary within the game (HL2, L4D) you will see that even while making the games they are STILL learning how flexible that software engine is.. yes the lag factor is damn near minimal, but that idea came about when myself and another mate were against 62 opposing bots on CS source.. odds against us, no lag and awesome time trying to win.
L4D is the same, and with the dynamic AI that has to pounce on people that the creators had the argument, anywhere a player can go.. so can the AI! (and by god its good!) and also the fact that it would take into account how well you are doing, you do too well, you get less ammo and no guns, you do very badly (blame your mates) and get given lots of guns and plenty of ammo. so you are pushed to survive with your mates as you progress through the game.
to me, tron would work beautifully with the Source engine and even an SDK to go with it.. well i mean look at all the HL mods today and also the HL2 mods.. the support and backbone is really there! valve loves its customers (nudge nudge disney) and with what they have acomplished.. I really give valve a pat on the back.
but again, they still dont know they full extent of their software which to me is awesome because it leaves for a "what if.. can we really do that?" or a "good idea, lets see!"
to me, with the Half life 2 SDK, its only limited to your imagination with what you are able to accomplish!
