Greetings Programs!
It's been a long time, and I am surprised no one is discussing the new movie here!
Well, I suppose that this place is more like a ghost sector these days... We need some programs to haunt this place...!
To those of you still around, though, how do we feel about the new movie? I personally am giving it somewhere between a 3.8 and a 4, out of 5. It's not what was wanted of a continuation by the fandom by any means. It passes as a spinoff at the very least, and gives us a lot of world building. Leto wasn't insufferable either, in my opinion. It's mainly being docked points for generally not having most of the previous cast in it, among other gripes I have with it that I may get into at another time. I just wanted to see if anyone here has specific opinions or feelings about it that they would like to share.
Furthermore, if you haven't seen it, I implore you to give it a try in theaters. If not for the new things, then for all the past TRON happenings that they do reference in the movie. Bruce has even said he wants us to see it, to give it a try... So I think we should. For the franchise to stay alive. End of Line. https://proxyrse.tumblr.com |

I agree with you!! It feels like a piece of a puzzle that they're trying to set up. I hope that this movie does well enough that they continue with the set up they've created. I also hope they actually contact Bruce to reprise his roles this time.
I might go rewatch it sometime soon. Maybe bring another friend along this time!

I agree with both of you, I feel like it rates very highly especially if you view it without expecting it to be a continuation of Legacy. I don't want to talk about spoilers to the movie this close to its release, but I thought there were a couple of strange inconsistencies in the story that could be interesting to discuss once more people have seen it.
I also look forward to seeing what they have set up being built upon, but I felt the same way about Legacy, and they did not do anything with those loose threads in this movie that I noticed. So I am not holding my breath. But I will be very happily proven wrong if the next entry in Tron media ties everything together.
There is plenty of good lore and theory crafting that could be done with all the loose ends we have now. Back by Unpopular Demand. |

Hey everyone, it's been ages since I've posted here, but I've just gotten back from my second screening of Tron Ares, and I've gotta say that I've enjoyed the movie a lot more than I think I expected to. The trailers really did not make this movie look good - and surprisingly, there's a lot of unused content in the trailers. I think I even saw one that consisted almost entirely of scenes and dialogue that were cut from the movie. Kinda gives me the impression that a LOT changed in the editing room VERY late into production.
I also rewatched the original Tron film today for the first time since around the time Legacy came out on Blu-Ray back in 2011, if I recall correctly. Also enjoyed that quite a bit more than I expected.
Going into Ares, I didn't have very high expectations, as the concepts of "programs in the real world" felt like an inherently lower-budget idea. Additionally, the only merchandise for this movie currently being a delayed Hot Topic clothing line and a Fortnite cosmetic pack did not inspire a whole lot of faith that Disney was willing to put a bunch of money into this, but I feel like we may have been spoiled with Disney's efforts with Tron Legacy to create a cross-media brand presence back in 2010. I'm just saying if they're gonna tease us with
For my spoiler-free thoughts, I don't think it's as good as Legacy (though to be fair, Legacy is a *very* high bar in my opinion), but it still has a really interesting structure (for a Tron film) that gives a refreshing look at the "real world" of the Tron universe. I didn't expect much from Jared Leto, but his performance was surprisingly very good with only a little bit of faltering near the end. I'll parrot what everyone is saying too and mention that the visuals and score are phenomenal. I enjoyed the story for the most part despite a few plot holes and confusing elements, and I'm hopeful that we'll get to see more Tron movies and games in the near future. Or at least nearer than a decade and a half lol. Overall, I'm feeling like it's a solid 8/10, and I'm looking forward to the home media release!
