I'm working on "recognizer", a simple PC game.

It's going well. I got a lot done in just one night. I have 3 more nights to work on it. This is a simple vb5 application with a look that is similar to the original star wars arcade game. The recognizer flies at you. It's actually just an image control that starts off small and gets larger (by stretching the image) as it comes toward you.

This might not make it as a "real" video game, but it is going to be hilarious.

Gameplay sounds really fun, as Star Wars is pure win. I'd like to give it a try when you're done.

I was making a game called "Recognizer" once, where you actually flew a recognizer and fought for the MCP. Unfortunately, I deemed it to be too buggy, too repetitive, and too boring to actually make it as a real game.

You can try my demo here:

I might try to revive it sometime, who knows.. abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I downloaded your game. I'll give it a shot, if it works on 98SE.

OK. It's done. Not bad for basically one night's work. The source code is included (For those who do not trust running the executable.) It can be run from vb5 and probably from vb4 also.

Here is the program.

GameMaker7 Registered. You can download the unregistered version from that site, but it requires that you have an account there.

EDIT: Just tried you're game, looks pretty good. I didn't extract it yet, though, and I'll do that later today and provide a better review. For some reason, I couldn't hit the recognizer, but I assume that's because I didn't extract the folder.

It's better than anything I could do in vbasic, lol.

The trick is to aim at the very top section of the recognizer as it gets very close to you.

I'm sure that I can improve this; The problem with the image control is that it blocks out anything behind it. I need to redraw the recognizer with standard lines and squares and whatnot. Then you can see what is behind the recognizer, and I can make turns and intersections and whatnot. WIll also be able to go full screen....

This is starting to get pretty interesting. I've gotten rid of all of the vb controls except for the timer and the image of the recognizer. I replaced them with general line drawing statements.

I now have an excellent looking corrider. It looks a lot like what Clu was seeing in his little monitor thingy. It's scrolling nicely! I can add more variations to this corrider. It's just time consuming. I had to draw each frame of the corrider by hand. There are 3 frames in this particular corrider.

Version 2 is far from done, but you can take a look at what it looks like. This might never make it as a "real" video game, but I sense it could eventually become a good TRON screen saver.

Your chance to fly a recognizer

on Wednesday, March, 04, 2009 12:18 AM
OK. Here it is. It's coming along nicely (if not quickly). You are now controlling the recognizer as it travels down the corrider. At this point, it's not really a game; it's just animation. It's somehow very relaxing.....

Another version of recognizer is up. Right now I'm just trying to add more corriders. It's pretty tedious. I still don't know if this will ever become a real game or just material for a screen saver. Another few weeks and I should have an answer.

Actually, that's the wrong link. Sorry about that.

This one has a spectucular corrider. I'm going to add a few more corriders before I try to make this into an actual game. Success or failure will be determined in large part on whether or not I can change the size of the recognizer. It needs to get smaller, and then grow as it moves toward you.

Well, that's it. It's not going to work. It's just too complex to make these images shrink and grow. Torrent can make some good images and some neat screen saver material, but that appears to be about as far as it can go. Rats.

I'll be back in a few months, hopefully with a game. I've got a load of books coming. I need some fresh ideas for a refuel

Here is the last version of recognizer. You need a fast machine to run this one. It displays multiple corriders on the screen at the same time. It's been fun. I've had a great time working on it.
