Also, for anyone interested, there is going to be a cinema screening of TRON in Central London on the 16th of October.

There will be some Legacy footage shown in 3D as well. And ehere will also be a couple of special surprises as well

Can someone explain this to me. If Tron was never released on bluray, then how do they have an HD movie on TV?

I've seen the Sky HD presentation of Tron. It's sharper than the DVD I own but there's not a great deal of difference that I could notice.
Shame that the Tron cinema showing is on the 16th October but I did see it at the cinema back in 1982 so can't complain.

Possibly. I recall seeing a comment made by Steven Lisberger, about carrying out some color correction work on the movie that was long overdue? So, I imagine that the HD print is not the print that will be used for the Blu-Ray.
Only the real world scenes had any really noticeable quality improvements and, unless I imagined it, the circuitry was sharper on the characters in the video game grid.

Thanks for the reply, I always wondered how they broadcast an HD movie when there is not bluray available for it yet.

Another example of this was Raiders of the Lost Ark HD on Sky Action last night. It looked great! But, as far as I'm aware of there has been no further print remastered for Blu-Ray. As it's another of my favourite movies, along with TRON, I will be looking out for a BR release of that, too.

Not sure if anyone made it to this last night. It was super sweet. We got both legacy trailers with full everything, 3D etc. Then the comic con 2010 footage which blew me away AND we got personal London messages from Steve Lisberger and Cindy Morgan! As well as t shirts and wrist bands. I was surprised this was the event it was. There was also some chaps TRON collection on display with an original helmet (i think).
After that we had an original 35mm screening of TRON which was just wonderful.
Best TRON experience for me yet. And theres still TRON night, and I'm in the running for a legacy premiere ticket

tronprogram your collection was intense! I did overhear you explaining the difference between the posters hehe, Sorry I didnt talk to you at all, i was staggered by the organisation of the evening... Whats the story behind the helmet?
OooOh and tell me more about Cindy's intro! Is there another thread about the evening?
Are there any plans for UK sectoids to see the movie together?? If not, lets make them now.

I just added the Sky Movies HD channels to my cable lineup and am watching Tron right now. It's definitely not just upscaled SD. It looks like they did a basic HD transfer when they did the 20th anniversary DVDs. If the remastered version for the Blu Ray is going to be better than this (and this is really nice and sharp) then I can't wait.
It'll be quite funny if the movie that causes me to buy a Blu Ray player is Tron, as it was also the movie that caused me to buy a DVD player.

Did you notice any difference between this and the DVD release?

I didn't catch all of it (although I have it set to record on Sunday) but from what I saw it's just a 1080i50 print of the 20th Anniversary version, so exactly the same but sharper.
