One fix (might be easily implemented) is to give the user the ability to turn off images in threads? Some boards I use this at work so no images load, they show up as links instead. I looked for that option but there doesn't appear to be a lot of user options on our side.

Some basic new user authentication would do it... just keep new memebers from posting more than __ times an hour, and deny them the ability to use tags in posts until they've hit some sort of landmark. I've been in many forums like that, and it works,

If I right-click on an image, the menu gives me the option to "block images from [whatever the host site is]." I believe that "block images" is a firefox-only feature.
