I have not owned a TV in decades. Really. Cable, sat and broadcast TV are both nothing more than a waste of money to me......95% of their content (and I use the word loosely) is worthless programming coupled with annoying, banal commercials for things you don't have any need or desire for anyway. So I watch only movies at home, and I'd been doing that on my decidedly low-def computer screen.
I finally cracked and bought what I would genuinely need to truly have and enjoy real 1080P movies....a 24" 1080P set, blu-ray player and HDMI cable. Long story, but my T:L blu-Ray is miles away at the moment and I could not put my hand to it for another week or so, so I rented the T:L blu-ray. Then....then I went home and got everything hooked up, made sure everything was working, adjusted the set as best I could using the Disney blu-ray splash screen, then, I waited. Patiently. Until that evening when all the cares and errands of the day had been disposed of and dealt with. Then, and only then, did I sit down for a what I was prepared to be nothing short of a full-blown religion-grade epiphany: The watching of T:L in true HD from the opening to the closing credits. In a dark room. With my Audio-Technica studio reference headphones on. This was going to be The Ultimate.
And oh was it ever. Keep in mind I had not really had any experience with real HD before. It was nothing short of breathtaking. I had not seen T:L look SO GOOD, so absolutely, incredibly sharp and bright. I mean it just POPPED. It left nothing to be desired. It rivaled the sharpness and color of things we see in the real world with our eyes every day. It was that crisp. To see this movie in HD was like seeing it again for the first time. The thousands of details I had missed in the theater and never seen at all on my computer screen were all now crystal clear....the star field under the LC grid, Sam's tear when he meets his dad again (you can't see it in anything less than 1080P), the minute vibration of the picture when a light cycle is up close and not just the shaking you see when they make a jump or crash. I could go on for a LONG time about all the details I was finally able to see. The acting even seemed far more nuanced with how much more easily you could see the minutiae of the actors' performance.
But suffice to say that in a dark room, using this new home theater of sorts, the quality successfully rivaled any theatrical showing of it I ever saw, including IMAX. It would have to be in 3D to be any better. It is a shame that most movies on Blu-ray, made using digital cameras, are not going to look as good as T:L does, but this is owed to T:L's producers being very concerned with the movie's image quality, so they took the trouble to use the latest in digital 3D IMAX Cameras to film the flick.
And the sound....OMG.....blu-ray provides a very high bit-rate for the sound, and through the headphones, I noticed just as many small auditory touches as I did visual ones which I had not been aware of in the first place...video game sounds in the background, voices, crashing sounds. The music was fantastic sounding, better than I had ever heard it. No distortion, nothing but perfection.
In closing, I'll say if you are going to buy an HD set, just get the frigging 1080P already, will you? Otherwise it's going to haunt you that what you see on that 720 set you finked out and bought just isn't as good as it could *really* be. Go all the way and get the real HD, not the poor man's so-called HD. T:L deserves nothing less, and it really does look that good. order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Using a 1080i here, looks the same. Life's biggest lie is that 1080p is better.
But I would like to hear it with sound like that, having a 4.0 surround sound is lame.
Good enough for the little I watch TV so I never bought a new one.
Thinking of it still, though.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Moses613-
Congrats on the new TV. I think many people are surprised by the huge difference that true 1080p blu-ray quality is compared to DVD or that horrendous "fake HD" they call cable or satellite TV. Tron Legacy is such a great demo Blu-ray. It's what I put on when friends come over and they ask me to demo my home theater room. 24" is on the small side of things and your going to have to sit very close for your eyes to take in the full splendor of 1080p. THX recommended viewing distance for a 24" set is less than 3 feet, so that's pretty darn close. Who knows, you may catch the home theater bug like I have and you may consider upgrading to something larger in the future.
Now that you have the picture, time to start thinking about the sound, after all that's the other half of the experience. Tron legacy has a great 7.1 lossless soundtrack, once again, pure demo material!
I am somewhat like you that I don't watch any cable/satellite/broadcast TV, but I really do enjoy movies. My watching is pretty much exclusive to blu-ray as that is the only format that delivers good quality. Also, I can't stand commercials or edited content. I also collect laserdiscs so I watch those a bit as well but that is more of a "nostalgic hobby".
A while back I started a thread for people to post their systems so if you can/want, why don't you take a few pics and post on the thread: http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?a=top&id=426976&fc=442311#442311. Doesn't matter what you have, it's a nice place to show others what your watching Tron on!
Once again, congrats on the new setup and welcome to the world of high-definition! where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online END OF LINE |

For one, 1080p *is* better, in fact better than 720 or what any DVD could hope to deliver, which, with an upscaling dvd player or most blu-ray players, is max 720 resolution. I've compared them side by side. Really there is no compare.
I'll have to look into what THX standards recommend, but I spent a lot of time pre-purchase making sure a 24" set would be adequate, even making a screen-sized cardboard cutout and propping it up on my desk. making sure it would look right when I watch it, which is usually at my desk, feet propped up. I know as an American that it's heresy to say anything bigger is not necessarily better, but 24" is the best size for my typical viewing distance which is about 18-24 in from the screen. I bought very carefully, mainly because I don't have a lot of $$ so I may have to enjoy this set for a long time before upgrading, and that's fine since it looks great.
How's it working out? Beautifully. I really do get the theatrical experience from this set, especially when watching in a darkened room. The screen at that distancedd oesn't dominate the eye yet I can still see all the detail 1080p offers. as far as sound goes, I have a good set of speakers, but since I live in an apartment and have to respect others who do not necessarily appreciate loud volumes, I just put on my audio-technica headphones. I should mention that the sounds in a movie on blu-ray are so sharp, so smooth, and are at such a high bit rate, that I almost noticed as many new sounds in T:L as I did visually the fist time I watched it on blu-ray, and the sound n T:L is indeed amazing. where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

I completely agree. The step up from 720p to 1080p is quite significant and noticeable under proper viewing conditions.
Here is the wikipedia article on THX recommended viewing distances http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance#THX_ranges. This site has a nice little calculator where you put in the screen size and it tells you how far you should be sitting http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html. It sounds like you pretty much have a good distance as you are at a desk when viewing content. If you ever decide to put that in a living room then clearly you will need something larger in size. You may also want to invest in a calibration disk as it will allow you to accurately calibrate for brightness, contrast, color,... etc. These are pretty inexpensive and go a long way in improving the picture.
I can sympathize with the sound levels in an apartment. Before I moved into my house I really had to watch the sound levels and time of day. I think it's just common courtesy not to disturb the neighbors. Once, I got my own place it was great as now sound levels can be earth shattering with my 7.2 setup! It's nice to get that "movie theater" experience at home.
Once, again, congrats on the new setup! END OF LINE |

It's incredible how much HDTV prices have fallen. You can get these sets for a few hundred dollars. Players are well below $100. I started watching blu-ray's on HDTV's about 5 years ago and it's been great to see higher adoption rates of this new technology as prices have come down. I'm a big hometheater fan so I kind of go overboard sometimes (a little at least). It's great that anybody can now get a pretty high quality experience of sight and sound with a relatively inexpensive HDTV and a HTIB. END OF LINE |
