Here's a shot of the turret slicing through part of the tank body:
And here's the goof you were pointing out Carl! In the tank scene it clearly rotates it's turret 90 degrees to aim at the light cycles, but in the scene where it shoots, it's facing forward! Good eye!
And here's the double shadow goof. Definately a goof Kamui I dont know of any lighting source that could do that!

Okay. I now see what you're talking about.
As for an actual double shadow, I don't see them all that often or totally what kinds of light sources create them but I usually see them when I'm out at night and all I have is street lights.

I think that shot is ok. As far as I can tell the turret is over the white arrow part. Here is one that shows some actual slicing...

To mee it looks like the line for the turret disappears under the white part and emerges later. It is a close call and I wouldnt have ever noticed it in the film had someone not ever mentioned it.

It's certainly possible. I need to go back a check my DVD. In my model that part is cleared by the barrel of the cannon itself but the dome sticking off to the side and the counter balance don't clear it.

Yeah, which is kind of odd since the tank in that shot seems to be totally missing the counter balance. Maybe because they knew it wouldn't work in that shot? The tank in the lightcycle chase scene later does have the counter balance
