Hey Gang. Just a quick FYI that on the main page below the most recent posts, you'll see google ads now. I'm trying to get it to link up with stuff like the Tron DVD or Tron Killer App etc, which supposedly I can do. If not then you'll probably see it dissapear.
Oh... and while yes it's 'advertising' you'll never see it anywhere but on the right side or bottom of a page (if it sticks around). I hate sites that plaster it everywhere.
Let me know if you guys absolutely hate the idea. I'm not big on it myself but if I can get it to post links to Tron merchandise then I think it's neat.

Their in a good spot so that they won't get in the way of viewing the overall site. Sounds fine to me.

Just wondering... do you get something out of it? They're not in the way and not pop-ups, so they don't bother me.
I am just curious as to what benefit they give to you.

Technically I could get something out of it. but it's click throughts only, and factions of pennies per. So in order for me to retire and move to Jamaca... it would take a LOT of that. Heh
Honestly it will probably amount to a $3-4 a year. The main reason I want to try it is to try and get some Tron-Specific links for buying stuff. Like the hard-coded link for Tron 2.0 on the main page.

I'm fine with that Auric. Its a nice idea. Even on my sit as well I have some adverts as well. but they are on teh top of the pages though. Here is not so bad. On the lower right. I won't really notices myself. But I'll click on them as well.

I don't mind the google ads at all. They're subtle and out of the way.

Auric,
I just opened the home page but didn't see the ads you were discussing. I think they are actually a great idea if it were to somehow translate to higher traffic for the site. Let's be honest, any online community that's not growing is dying. Even if it means one or two annoying ads here and there, I think it would be worth it if it brought in more people.

The Google ads at the footer forces the mid section of TRON-Sector pages to be wider and that's kind of annoying to me - I end up having to scroll to the right to see the whole page now. What does 'Ads by Google' mean?
It means that Google uses search-based technologies to match advertisements to the content and context of web pages - so the ads you see are related to the information you are viewing. The ads come from Google's base of AdWords advertisers. These advertisers range from global brand name companies to small local businesses. |
How to get the ads you want: Type stuff about Tron. The ads are kinda topic based. If it finds keywords about a certain topic (Ei: DVDs, manga....whatever...) and find ads to correspond with that. So that's how it works! ^^

Yeah that is annoying. I'll see what I can do about that. I don't want them being 'in the way'
What screen resolution are you running in?

I'm running at 1280x960 at home, but I don't usually like to maximize my browser (harder to follow a row of text that way) so I keep it at a general good viewing width that makes most sites seem to look optimal (to me anyway). But now I have to either maximize my browser or scroll on TRON-Sector. At work, I use 1024x768 and even maximized I end up scrolling a little to get the right-side to show.
It's not a big deal, just an annoyance. If it can be corrected - great! If not, no problem.
