Bob Moog Dies at 71

A very sad day indeed. I met Mr. Moog with Wendy Carlos once in NYC in 1997. Thier table was next to mine at an event to honor another great pioneer of electronic music, Raymond Scott. As I was adjusting my seat so that someone else could sit down I accidentally bumped into Wendy's chair and turned to apologize. I then told her that I was a big fan of her music and asked about the TRON material which had not been released at the time. As we were talking Bob Moog was listening in. When there was a break in the conversation he leaned over the table and reached out his hand to me and introduced himself, "Hi, I'm Bob Moog" he said. As if I didn't know who HE was. Anyway, he was a very friendly guy.

That's terrible news, Esotek. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you got to meet him.

I have a Roland keyboard/synthesizer. Ultimately, I probably owe it to Moog for this technology being here in my room.

Very strange timing. I just completed a 5-minute ambient track for a video game mod with my keyboard two or three days ago. This is only the 2nd lengthy multi-layered track I've done with my keyboard since I got it several years ago. The first one was several years ago.

Thanks for the update, Esotek.

I used to be in to keyboarding and synthesizers back in the late 80's. I never got really good at it, but I loved playing around with all the different sounds I could make on them.

Rest in peace, Mr. Moog. And thank you for all the cool stuff you helped open the door for!

Yeah it is sad to hear that happen. I think I still have a record of some moog Music over here. And I remember seeing within the envelop on the LP. What the moog looked like with all thei wired dangling from one Socket to another for changing the tones on it.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

His synthesizers were used in a LOT of music important to me growing up. The Tron score, Kraftwerk and Tarkus (by Emerson Lake and Palmer).

That's too bad, but his contribution will live on forever.

Sad to hear the news. Can you imagine what someone like this made the musicians need in thier show? When's the last time you saw a lazer show? Concerts, firework displays, and computers used to make all sorts of these applications. fascinating stuff.

I was shocked to hear of Mr. Moog's passing: because he was still very active last year participating in a documentary on his work, I believe.

Very sad news.
