Wanna real lightcycle? THE WAIT IS OVER!

on Thursday, October, 27, 2005 10:43 AM
Okay. I'm sorta not joking. I actually saw something that looks very close to a lightcycle (Minue the lighttrail) and well, it can be found here:

http://www.carver-europe.com/
They're currently available only in Europe at the moment, but will be making their way to North America shortly.

And here's a good image of it:

i remember seeing this thing on top gear [not sure if that's a worldwide thing, it's basically a car magazine show.] ages ago.

i thought that thing was so cool, but i never associated it with a lightcycle..

i still do think that thing is cool.

I pretty much did from when I first started. I was like "Wow! That looks a lot like a lightcycle. It even kinda turns like one too!" And after I saw a news article on it, I just had to post this.

it's good for showing off in, but it's not very practical.

it's a 2 seater, but the passenger [who sits behind the driver] pretty much gets folded in half.

and if i remember correctly, there is no cargo space whatsoever.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Well.... It's just a motocycle/car hybrid. I think it wasn't 100% meant to serve a utilitarian purpose like most other cars do. Like The Smart car. Not very practical in snow but fun to drive neither the less. ^^

Imagine getting hit by an SUV, or God forbid a tractor-trailer while driving that thing.

You have to take the cool general description for lightcycles by Mr. Sherwood (I think that's right) on I love the 80's, and know this IS a lightcycle in real life.

(This just in/realized) Anyone notice that the extensions on the lightcycles were probably (they could have contained-albeit small now that I think about where their arms sit) rear-view mirrors...I SMELL A TRON 2.0 MOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Head on-looks like a lightcycle.

Side view-reflection looks like the top half is the lightcycle.

Schematic-looks just like a lc, save the beveled edges near the wheels, which is just crazy-I mean Geniusly neccessary for turning.

Even the back looks (on the top) like the lc toy.

The lc is here. Just think how many lights it can pass by before you??

Am I the only one who thinks it doesn't look all that much like a light cycle?

That looks a lot like something I saw on TV more than 20 years ago. It was called "the lean machine" and looked much like this vehicle, only more streamlined and with the front wheel covered by the front of the vehicle. I can't remember if it was called the lean machine because you literally leaned one way or the other to steer it, or maybe just because it leaned when you turned it, period.

I just googled the lean machine - I found nothing. Actually, I did see an image of the vehicle shown in the link above. LOL But that's not the original lean machine - just a vehicle that is amazingly similar, though less aerodynamic looking. Still very cool looking though - I mean I'd love to take a spin in one of those things!

I remember the Lean Machine; it was made by GM and was in at least one sci-fi movie, namely Demolition Man. I think it may have been in a few more.

There was even a Hot Wheels model of it, which was repeatedly released in all sorts of paint schemes!

In Google, try: +gm +"lean machine"

I found a ton of links, the first of which is neat website called 3wheelers.

I think the Lean Machine looks more like a light cycle than that other thing does.

Haaaaaaaaaa! That's it! The B&W image on the upper-right in the 3-wheelers link you provided! That's the one I saw way back then!

Thanks for finding that little gem! I really only did a quick google image search and didn't spend much time digging.

I don't remember the Hot Wheels models of it - just the actual car... er, cycle... jeez - what do you call that thing? Anyway, I remember seeing it on TV in the early 80's and thinking how cool the future of transportation would be. At the time, I just assumed they'd be at all the car dealers within a year or two. I guess they just never took off. I'd sure love to zip around in one of those things though!

Mercedes made something similar a long time ago, it was on that show beyond 2000 maybe? It had 2 wheels in the front. It was designed to lean with turns on the road. to give the active feel of a motorcyle, it was pretty fresh, looked like fun to drive/ride...

True. The Carver wasn't the first one to use this idea. There's been a lot of other that came before it. It's just this one has caught a wee bit of attention here in Canada for a moment. ^^;
