Posts: 113 | Undertaking a project to make my own Tron Helmet (80s movie version) on Sunday, January, 02, 2011 5:10 PM
Greetings Gents,
I wished the Search function worked on this site... everytime I click on the Search button it takes me to the main screen that shows all the subforums.
Anyhow, after doing some research on the internet, I discovered that the Tron helmet is actually made from the Cooper SK2000 hockey helmet, which I purchased today on eBay in size L.
I went on another site (therpf.com) where I came across some posts from a member there who happens to be an admin here (MrSinistar)... I hope that is his screen name here since I'd love to speak with him more about this topic. He made an amazing Tron helmet from the same hockey helmet, except that his was a size small whereas mine is a size large and apparently the size large helmet has more screw holes than the small and medium sized helmets that were actually used in the Tron movie.
Anyhow I'll keep updating this thread as I make progress... MrSinistar painted his helmet gray and used blue reflective tape for the circuitry... I'm thinking about maybe painting my helmet black with the blue reflective tape for circuitry, but we'll see.
Thanks,

^^ Thanks guys!
Well... I came across a bit of a problem with my helmet... when I bought this I didn't realize that one of the side plastic pieces that say "Cooper" on it is missing. The Tron helmets in the 80s movie has those side plastic pieces, so now I'm stuck figuring out what to do. I can either try and find another Cooper helmet owner to see if they'll sell me one of their side plastic pieces, or I'll have to buy another Cooper SK2000 helmet.
Does anyone here have a spare Cooper SK2000 helmet that I could maybe buy the side plastic piece from? When wearing the helmet it's the side plastic piece on the right side that is missing.
Thanks,

Do you have a pic of the side that has the piece missing? Is this just a matter of covering a hole, or...? I mean, if it's simple enough, then since you're just going to paint it anyway, it shouldn't matter if you find something else, right? (Heaven help us...Bondo? )

Hey Kat,
In the picture I posted in this thread, if you look at the side of the helmet you'll see where it says, "Cooper". That is a raised plastic plate piece held on by screws. Imagine that the opposite side is missing that piece so it's not symmetrical... a good analogy is looking at a car from the front and facing the windshield... imagine the car having a drivers side side-mirror but not having a passenger side side-mirror. Hope this helps. Bondo won't help in this case because it's not a hole that's there but a plastic piece that normally sticks out but isn't in this case.

Oh, damn, it is that raised part then.
Well, I think there is some sort of crafty moldable plastic clay, isn't there? Someone has to know more about this than I do.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Those are known as the "Side bumpers". When Cooper was making these helmets during their full production run, they were not a problem to get replacements but now parts for Coopers are very scarce. I would see if you could find someone on a hockey site that may know of someone doing replacement parts for old gear. "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |

In a case like this, if the part is no where to be found, I'd take the other piece off, then make a mold of it using silicon and cast it out of resin! It's actually very easy to do, quick and you can buy a small cast kit online. You can also find tons of videos on youtube for duplicating/ recasting parts.
There's other ways of doing it too but might be a bit pricey for just one little piece.
I'd mold it and cast a resin copy.
Good luck with this friend. "So, nice-looking ship you got here ." |

Thanks guys! Excellent ideas you all provided. I'm currently talking with a hockey company that might have these side bumpers in stock. They will let me know next week if they have any left. The nice thing is I don't have to worry about the color of the side bumpers since I'll be repainting the entire helmet.

** SUCCESS!!! **
I had found a couple of listings on eBay... one for $9.99 with no Buy it Now, and another one for $19.99 with Buy it Now, so I went ahead and purchased the Buy it Now one so I now have the side bars and can proceed with my project.
I seriously love happy endings, lol.
FYI... anyone looking for the side bars, please note there is a part number that may aid you in your search... Part # RSP2000 Hope this helps!
Pics to follow once they arrive...
Thanks,

Thanks bro! I removed all the hardware on the helmet so now I'm ready to sandpaper the helmet to allow for better paint adhesion. I'm not certain how much sanding is necessary to allow the paint to adhere but I'll take my best guess and just sand it using fine grit sandpaper.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion
