Does anybody have one of these? I've been thinking of getting a bigger thumb drive anyway (ah, the 256 from my college days! Still works great, usually isn't too limiting as I don't use it much, but still...) and...well...GEEKINESS! I was thinking of the 4g Sam version (I dunno that I need all of 8g, and I like the Legacy bikes better anyway ). Too bad they didn't come out with an old-school cycle version!
(What happened to the thread about the toys? I was going to post this there rather than making an all-new thread, but...) What do you want? I'm busy.
Program, please!

I've got both. The Sam 4 gig lights up while the KF 8gig lights up and has some sound when plugged in. I've got the Sam one attached to my keychain, pretty easy to do around one of the wheels.

Any idea who makes these? Trustworthy brand or is it gonna die and lose my shit possibly? (Small chance I know, but we're talking MY luck here...)

They will all die eventually.
That said, it's from a company called Dane-Elec. One of their older memory sticks has good reviews on Amazon (save for 3 1-star reviews from 2006.)
Here is a link to a 4 GB stick from Dane-Elec at Buy.com (likely the same stuff inside the Sam Memory Stick.) You can see it's very highly rated by buyers there. I think you should be fine (and they are SO COOL.) My gf had to have a KF 8 GB stick once she saw mine.
I've gotten three of the classic 8 GB sticks (one to keep sealed cause the packaging is pretty sweet too) and the 4 GB Sam stick to carry around on my keychain.

Ok humour a person who isn't as techie as she used to be. I just bought my first flash drive. Now why would they die, if they have no moving parts?
Forget it, Mr High and Mighty Master Control. You aren't making me talk.

Flash memory has a limited amount of writes and re-writes. Once it's passed the drive will just hold what's already on there. The number of writes is a lot and it should last many years, but it will not last forever.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Most flash drives have something called "wear levelling" which means if you write the same file over and over again it doesn't use exactly the same bits on the memory chip, it spreads it out over the remaining free space, on top of that most have extra memory available to the controller chip so if bits of the memory chip become faulty it marks them as such and uses the reserve bits.
You're more likely to lose the use of a flash drive by losing it altogether or through a broken USB connector than the memory chip dying through over-use.

I have the Kevin Flynn one. It's totally cool. I don't save stuff on it unless it's tron related. Other than that, I just look at the extras on it. It's awesome. Get one. Now! "Throw Your Frisbees in the Air!" |
