Battle of the Super Computers...

on Monday, April, 21, 2003 4:35 PM
How do you think these other fictional super computers featured in cinema would fare against the MCP? Which do you think is flat out more powerful? Which came closer to dominating mankind? Which was more cruel, more fair, or whatever. Let's compare the day away. And not just which would beat the other necessarily, any kind of comparsion is welcome.

The MCP Vs. The Matrix.

The MCP Vs. V'ger.

The MCP Vs. Skynet.

The MCP Vs. Hal 9000.

The MCP Vs. The Borg (main hive mind).

...or any viable examples I missed.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

MCP vs Hal 9000... hooboy. Two freaky red stuff vs each other. Both are just innanely evil in their own way. Hal more than MCP for some reason. (So, when I was little, I had a phobia of red lights. ;_

...You know, I have to re-watch all of the other movies again because my memory is totally shot right now. Oww.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Colossus from Colossus: The Forbin Project. (1970)

Colossus actally took over at the end and told man kind "disobey... and die."

Looking at it, the Skynet from the Terminator is really just a continuation of Colossus. Very similar. Both were a defense system that controled nuclear warheads which lauched them.

I didn't know about The Forbidden Project. But you did remind me of a computer I'd forgotten about, the one from The Forbidden Planet, from the late fifties. That was a pretty good movie I think.

Kia, actually, Hal wasn't really evil depending on how you define it; he was perfectly good by design but had somehow malfunctioned. He was attempting to obey his programming but ended up throwing the baby out with the bath. That brings up another comparison thing...

Which computer is the most evil? Some were born in evil intent, like the Matrix, but some meant to be truely helpful, but turned bad, like Skynet. All were bad in the end, but heck, I actually felt sorry for Hal at the end.

"Will I dream?"

Poor thing.

But I'm leaning towards V'ger in terms of power, not because of it's wits, but it's arsonal. Pitting wits against wits, I'd probably still go with V'ger. V'ger just flicked it's wrist and shut down all the world's 23rd century defenses, while the MCP still hadn't cracked the modern-day Pentagon alone.

Actually it was called the Forbin not Forbidden Project.

Well since you mentioned Robby the Robot, I can't help but bring in Maximilian from The Black Hole. Robot just liked killing. Plus he just looks like a bad@$$. Especially since he never speakes.

Ohhhh. This is intersting. Another similarity with the Terminator and Colosus is both movies were made by Universal.

Here's a link to a site about the movie. Check out that cool interior shot showing the memory banks or "Brain" of Colossus. Check out the gallery and might as well listen to the sound files to hear what Colosus sounded like.

Oh, right.

Well since you mentioned Robby the Robot,...

Well, Robby was in that film, but I was referring to that super computer that was made by those extinct aliens. Remember the one? It had that humongous readout of power consumption and was making that guy's dream a reality?

Wait I just remembered another super computer!

Holly! He/she has an IQ of 6000!

*scratches her head*

Yeah, Jedi, I told you about how HAL frightened me when I was younger...

In any case, I'm going to have to watch 'em all again. Yep, V'ger was just, whoa. (I haven't seen Star Trek since I was what, 10? The tape I have is really oooooold. Was taped off of HBO. I gotta find a better quality tape or a dvd to watch.)

However, I forgot to point out that I can remember skynet and The Borg better.

The Borg was definitely more intimdating than MCP because they wanted to achieve perfection... and I think that perfection only causes more flaws. ^^;

Granted, some sci-fi movies had that impression that machines are scary... and that could take over and wipe out the humanity. (I believe, the messages with the movies were that you gotta remember how humanity is like so you don't forget it when being with machines, heh.)on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Yea, it seems that Star Wars is the only sci-fi exception that at least partly presenting droids as a friendly technology.

HAL was spooky when he flipped out, but remember in 2010 he redeemed hisself and even made the sacrifice.

"I love working with people."

Poor thing. I feel sorry for him as much as I do V'ger.

Sorta.

How about Proteus IV from Demon Seed?

This thing trapped its creator's wife in her own house and impregnated her! After removing the fetus from her body, Proteus IV placed it into an artificial womb/incubator. When the fetus had matured into a girl of maybe 2 yrs old (the maturation process was accelerated of course), Proteus IV shut down and the child emerged. It opened its eyes and said something like "I am alive!" in the voice of Proteus IV! Very creepy stuff.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Wow...
I see now why it's called Demon seed. Wait a minute...

*Sketch gets out OMNI book*

Oh... My... USER! O_O

So that's THAT movie!!!!! Oh my! My omni book shows a photo of the machine. Has a text next to it that reads...

Demon Seed (1977), a scientist creates such a sophisticated computer that it's capable of imprisoning, raping, and impregnating his wife. Here she is threatened by a mechanical arm that obeys Proteus's command.

*Closes book*

I'm going to have nightmares now.
