Well, if there was ever a sign that TRON 2.0 the movie isn't coming it's the fact that the TRON 2.0 site for the games is GONE!

A friend at Disney sent me notification this morning that it's been removed and redirected to Buena Vista Games. (So far it just shows a 'Page Can't be Found' message for me though)

Well, there goes another page of my life. Farewell TRON 2.0.

I have a copy of the hi-res clip that was supposed to be shown in theatres in front of several Disney films.

The story I heard was that the cost to get Disney Feature to put those trailers in was prohibitive. Disney Synergy at it's finest. Screw one division to make a buck and watch a great game die.

I saw this coming, sadly. (The signs were there.)

Disney doesn't deserve the Tron property any more.

Am I shocked? No.

Disappointed? Hell yes!

Disney is no longer the Disney we knew and loved growing up. Michael Eisner has seen to that personally.

I hate to see dreamers like Steve Lisberger have to be held to reality by suits in Hollywood that think they know what's gonna sell.

That was what made me NEED to play the game! Then, I downloaded the demo thingy and it DIDN"T WORK on my computer.


But, it seems to make sense that they got-rid of the site. When I went looking for the game, I went to Fry's, and they hadn't even heard of it.

Yep - it sucks, big time!

Disney is a strange animal. They have made it very clear that they are not interested in TRON at all, period. Unfortunately, they'll hold on to the rights of it until the day they no longer exist, I'm sure. Once they own something, they'll never let it go. They'll shelf it indefinitely and let it rot. Perhaps for the right price, they might sell the rights... but I doubt any entity could afford what they might ask.

In terms of rebuilding the site, I don't think Disney would take kindly to that. They might ignore it, but something tells me that they'd shut it down through legal channels. Again, I believe Disney is happier owning TRON and letting it rot, than allowing anyone else to keep it alive - at least in the sense of someone else hosting the previous material of the official TRON 2.0 site.

I definitely have the music from the site saved somewhere, and I think I saved the flash menu too (with the buttons and constantly changing screenshots). But I don't have the rest.
