Wow, nice plane. All you need now is the energy beam for the Solar Sailer and some Recognizers to chase after you.  
There was a post about this over at LDSO. 
That's a nice GPS, too. I've got a freind who works at Garmin, so I get to see all of the new GPS's that come out.

My freind who works there is an engineer. He helps design a lot of the GPS's for aircraft. I do know that he helped design the G1000, I'll ask him about the ones you mentioned.

Jay, you should use the same solution they used for the ENCOM helicopter in the film, to achieve a kind of glow effect. They put reflective tape on the copter: which was inexpensive, easy to do, and achieved a similar effect when light was shone on it.
Of couse, electroluminescent wire would be awesome. But like you said, it could be easily damaged or fall off during flight.

You could drill holes in the fuselage & wings then thread the e-wire through it...
