Tron issue 6 has finally arrived. Yes.... I know many people think it was a long wait. And relatively speaking, it was. But man... I just realized that I spent 25% of my life working on this project (in one capacity or another). For a total earning of under 1000$ dollars, not including subtracting taxes and travel costs. Which actually puts me in the negative.
So go buy the thing already!

I thought that the ending was very unusual for this series. Thought that it could have ended off in a different way. But it looked familiar to something else I may have seen somewhere. Not certain though. But it is still good though.

There were a few different endings that didn't make it for one reason or another. It was an unusual ending, but we wanted the story to generally go left when people expected it to go right. Basically make a story that wasn't the story people thought it was. Which has tremendous dissatisfaction potential for readers, but that's a roll of the dice on the best day.

And I understand that completely Lurkinghorror. Since I was under the same thing when I was learning Cinematography and making small 5 minutes films. (Similar concepts to this but with different media.) But still it was good I hope if Disney decides to carry on with the comic book in black and white it will be profitable for both your company that your working for and Disney. KNowing disney they still don' get it like always. Lets hope it pans out for everyone.

My wife bagged the last two copies from my local comics store. I read it last night very quickly.
I need to go back and read the entire series through in one sitting now to get the complete flavor of the story. Something didn't sit right with me last night, and I think it's because I have lost the thread waiting for each issue.
I'm happy to have all 6 now, and looking forward to a little reading time this weekend.

So here's my take on issue #6 and the series:
Spoiler Box!!! Highlight the text below to see it: So Jet, this whole time, was actually a program who was infused with the Tron legacy code and then "rebooted" to see what would happen. During the reboot all sorts of weird, wild, things take place. Jet's user (the real Jet) then tells him that because of the experiment was a success he can actually become a real live person. Program Jet, who doesn't want to leave his world and friends behind, opts to remain a program thus saving his "world". Kind of a take on the "Am I a man dreaming he's a butterfly or a butterfly dreaming he's a man?" thing. All in all very interesting and worthy entry in the Tron canon |
Please correct me if I am way off |

You are correct. Unfortunately, between changing artists, shifting page counts, script material dropped from the book without notice, a 6 issue cap on the series, and of course the reality that it was a difficult concept to bring to the page, meant that the story was not conveyed half as smoothly as I would have liked. I'm happy with it in the broad strokes, but the fine detail... I would rework it if I could.
Spoiler Box!!! Highlight the text below to see it:We don't actually state it in the pages of the book, but the idea is that this being that was almost a User and almost a person, is Tron 2.0. |

Ahhhh, yes... OK. I didn't fully get that at first...but..
Spoiler Box!!! Highlight the text below to see it: I thought maybe one of the characters in this last issue was supposed to be Tron but the signature T was not on his uniform, so I wasn't sure. I can see now (that you say it, of course) that this was supposed to be Tron all along and not just Jet. Bravo! |

Finally got it today. (Minor delay from comic shop trip due to Hurricane Ike and losing power for over a week.)
My only complaint about the story was that I did not understand how the issues set up in issue #1 in the "Real world" were resolved. Perhaps when I read it again straight through it will cohere more. I thought the computer world story was great, but it could have pretty much done without the real world setup at the beginning. Jet was shot? huh? I probably am missing something or have forgotten something. Also I have no idea about the game TRON 2.0, so I have no notion if the "Legacy Code" is important in the game somehow.
I did enjoy it, though. Glad to have the complete story now, and I wish this title could be picked up and made ongoing...with relatively little mythological baggage, it woudl be so fun for more writers and artists to play in the TRONverse.

I'll have to get the trade paperback of all issues, 'cause I've missed out on an entire chapter of the TRON storyline. The comic and TRON 2.0 game should definitely be taken into consideration when the storyline is produced for the new movie.

I'll play any mode, but I'm best at LC.
PSN - TRON-dll
XBOX Live/Games for Windows Live - TRONdll

Spoiler Box!!! Highlight the text below to see it:Red Jet in issue 5 addresses the events of issue 1 rather directly. In that the "real world" was never real. It was a fiction created by the mind of Blue Jet, to hide from the truth of his existence. Red Jet intruded on this reality and created a scenario that drove Blue Jet out in the open.
Which in the end did not work out well for Red Jet, as Red Jet was operating under his own fictional reality. The awakening and merging of Red and Blue was Green jet was striving against, as he was the only one who understood the true nature of their existence and was afraid of losing his autonomous existence.
My take on the Legacy Code was that the code essentially was Tron. What was left of him. This version of Jet had his program built on the foundation of the legacy code, essentially making him Tron. Not the exact same Tron, and not quite a User either. |

Thank you Landry. Like I said, it probably would have worked better for me to re-read the series in order again.
I did really enjoy the series. Although I would have liked to see more of the REAL "Real world" (perhaps if the series could have been longer.) I know that TRON is all about the blue and red guys, but I find the most enduring aspect of the orignal film to be the way that they explored the theme of he "human in the machine" (so to speak) -- the way that we are "present" in our software and the software shapes us. The visual connections between the real world and the computer world in the film are a triumph of design, and I would have liked to see the comic explore that theme more, since it was implied in issue #1, and explored in a completely different way in the conclusion. However, it's not fair to criticise what the story DIDN'T do, but only what your story actually was. On its own terms, it was great. A comics success, especially considering the obstacles you had to overcome to get it produced.
Thanks,
Josh

My biggest concern with exploring the real world has always been the time frame in which it could be presented. I always assumed that to Lora and Alan, Flynn's trip to the computer world was virtually instantaneous. I disliked the real world and computer world moving at the same pace, that was present in Tron 2.0
So that helped influence the story, certainly. Also, I didn't want to cover to much of the same ground as the film, as I felt the film pretty much dealt with those themes as well as one can.
It's very tricky writing a comic that is based off a game that is based of a film. Particularly an innovative film. A simple action story, to me, would be a disservice to what Tron was. So we went with something a bit left field. It was very different from any of our other work, and very experimental. I always knew that it would not resonate with a huge audience, so I selfishly took the opportunity to explore what Tron is to me.

Either you forgot to do your homework or I have to get a life, for the movie clearly shows hours passed between Flynn being digitized that 'fateful' night of September 22nd, and the moment Flynn prints out the evidence he needs (exactly at 6:00 hours, the next morning, of course) just before Mr. Dillinger arrives at his office for a new days work.
Also, How could a 'Lightcycle game' (or any computer game for that matter, considered to be 'soft real-time system' examples) become something instantaneous? The original Tron script established the story's real 'time frame' at various moments, and I quote,
...

No!

In a Greyhound station waiting area, two kids are playing a video game, which appears to have broken down.

I don't know... on the blink or something... damn.
Finally, Dumont tells Tron: "Hurry, the Users are waiting..." Well, waiting isn't something instantaneous nowadays nor back in '82 as CLU demonstrates Flynn...abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion You need to check out the COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL TRON TIMELINE!

How does it show hours have passed? I don't remember it being set in any definitive manner.
Did the film cut to the real world in that (finish the game) scene?
The bit with Clu is odd on it's own. In that scene, Flynn can communicate with Clu without a tower, yet everything else in the film suggests a tower is required. I just assume Clu had standing orders.
Regardless to the answers to all this, I still have to go with computer time = much much faster than real world time. It just makes more sense to me, even if the film does contradict this particular preference.
