Missing Tron Terminology

on Saturday, January, 10, 2009 6:26 PM
Like the infamous Cigarette Smoking Man from the X-Files, I realized there's a LOT of things in the Tron Universe that don't have official names. For example, what's the thing on the wall called when Clu and Dumont are tortured by the MCP? Is the weapon used by the Guards a wand or a Rod?

I think we should come up with our own names for some of the objects until Steven Lisberger or someone else from the crew give out like a name. It will make article writing for Tron Wiki a lot easier.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Acording to Richard Taylor (I think) In the making of TRON documentary, the gards are using a wand. So wand is, in theory, most canon. But I prefer rod. Wand is soooo ...Harry Potter.

Not necessarily. 2.0 has a lower canonsy level than the movie. But wand is never mentioned in the film, only in the making of, and then he probably used the first word that popped up in his head.
I think Ill watch that extra again to determin who named that weapon as a wand. If it was mrLisberger, then wand it is.

But speakin of canons.. We'll soon have two film. And we have two games and comics, maybe books too sometime.
There will be conflicting canon.
It could be an idea to have a formal canon leveling.
Maybe adopt the Star Wars canon system ?

Just watched "Making of Tron". Wand is the word of Richard Taylor. I will also say that the rod in 2.0 is not the same as the "wands" in the film. 2.0 states also that the rod primitive is primarely used to generate the LCs.
While the "wands" are primerily weapons.

but wand stil sounds oh so Harry Potter..

Edit: spelling and some corections.

Maybe you could add an explaination to the wiki that there's simply no terms for the weapons and such like there was for Tron 2.0... simply because no one thought of it at the time? :V

...though hell, we do have the classic Identity Disk (Disc?)

Yeah, it's tough to name some of the things in TRON . . . they've never had any official descriptions. The script and the novel may help in that department, though I'm sure you've already checked those.

Well, I think we can come to the logical conclusion that - at the time - no one was thinking that far ahead. They were mainly concerned with just getting the film done on time. It was a daunting project that they just barely managed to complete within a reasonable timeframe. Fleshing out the details would have to come later, if at all.

TRON 2.0 was the opportunity to do that. It may not end up being 100% canon, but I think a lot of things can be drawn from it and applied to future TRON projects. Why re-invent the wheel? Why throw away what works? The whole geometric primitives concept for weapons in the game, was pretty clever.

So, to me, the MCP Guard staff/wand is a rod. It's a different type of rod, specific to the Guards. But still a rod. Heck, you could call it a "wand rod" or "staff rod" if you want to cheat a little.

As for what the MCP used to de-rezz CLU and the other programs . . . yeah, that's a tough one. Some kind of decompiler? Maybe a disassembler? Those are the best descriptions you could give it. I think, personally, I'd call it a disassembler.

I always referred to the gaurds' "wands" as "sticks that are really, REALLY shiny".

I really hope that when TR2N comes out, we'll get a sequel to TRON 2.0. This is what I think:

TRON is where you start. I think that TRON 2.0 and the TRON 2.0 comics could be two entirely different cannons.

Basically, TRON started the whole thing. TRON also spawned the TRON 2.0 cannon, which spawned the TRON 2.0 comic cannon. TR2N is the sequel to TRON and does not relate to TRON 2.0 or the TRON 2.0 comic in any way.

That's just my opinion.

We can always agree to disagree with this one in te concerns of the staff/wand. I was just checking through google. for curiousity sake. The guards in tron could be using the staff as weapon if they wanted to. Like in the martial arts some different martial arts utilize it as part of their movements. I was quickly looking at this video on staff fighting. But it does not have close caption on it. I usually try and make sure it has that for anyone who wants to read and hear what is on the video.
