In Dillinger's office, Dillinger threatens to put Walter back into the garage from whence he founded Encom. From this we know that Walter was part of Encom's roots, but is there any storyline out there that explores who he sold it to, why, and why he isn't rich from doing so? I figured if he attained riches, he wouldn't be working in the laser bay in the basement of Encom but rather sipping a mai thai somewhere exotic. Or funding his own laser research.

Can anyone shed some light on Walter's past?

I also noticed a quick glance of interest from Walter when Alan comes down to the laser bay to talk to Lora about his Tron program being inaccessible. This spurs Walter to speak to Dillinger about the suspension of access to programs. Walter's program self, Dumont, facilitates programs' ability to speak to the outside world, ie their users. I acknowledge the connection between Walter and Dumont's purposes, but that little look he gives when Alan starts talking... that knowing glance... I can't put my finger on it but there is something else going on there.
