I agree with you, however, I'm thinking this is more like series 2.5 or something. Since Castor was held back in series 2 and series 2 wasn't supposed to be out until, well now, maybe they just did a quick recolor of Rinzler and the Black Guard to fill in that empty spot. Everyone was wanting Rinzler with blue colors anyway, so this will do until they actually make a figure with Tron's name on it. If the figures are really that nice looking, then they'll be worth it. If you notice, the figure of Sam has better paint as well. I decied to order them and see. If they are the same as the series 1 figures, I'll just send them back.
Also, I went straight to Target after seeing these, and they still only have series 1 stuff out. |
Series 2 is out; all the same figures with the exception of kevin & castor of course. only significant changes i noticed were what bt warrior had mentioned in the past as i did as well: color scheme corrections. I wanted to keep series 2 rinzler but figured why when i have 2 deluxe versions which is much more detailed & better looking. Only one i kept was clu as his color scheme is correct this time around. I'll check out "TRINZLER" & the "black rezzed guard" next week since di$neyland should have them available. Has anyone had much luck posing their deluxe figures? I got my deluxe Rinzler today and was very disappointed to discover that his hip and shoulder joints don't really move at all. His arms move up and down (through a very limited range of motion I might add) and his legs don't move at all. I know I saw at least one comment in this thread where someone was complaining about this issue, but I'd already ordered mine on Amazon and told myself that it might not be a permanent problem-- I have a Princess Leia figure that had the same problem, but it turned out that her joints were just a bit "sticky" at first and I can now pose her easily.
Has anyone been able to "loosen up" the joints on their figures? Or am I going to end up accidentally breaking his arms and/or legs off in trying? :P

Had some luck tonight on a store sweep. 3 Targets, a Kmart, a ToysRus, and a Walmart.
Walmart: only had the Flynn white retro lightcycles (large scale) left. About 10. That was their entire stock of Tron stuff.
Kmart: loads of the throwable discs. Some Series 1 diecast, deluxe lightcycles, deluxe lightrunners, etc.
Target1 and Target2 had a pitiful selection. NO series 2 anything. No advertisement of the current sale that is going on.
Target3: paydirt. A fair amount of Series 2 diecast. Picked up:
3-man jet x 2
1-man jet x 2
Grid limo x 1 ...although the color was orange instead of blue?? O.o This was confusing, as the picture on the back showing the various vehicles showed it with blue highlights. Yet the large pic on the card and the actual paint was orange. They only had 1 of these and I picked it up.
I left the rest of the extra Series 2 diecast for the 'next guy'. I only try for 2 of everything. 1 for play. 1 for keeps  I noticed on the back of the Series 2 cards for the diecast vehicles, it says "Wave 3 coming soon". No other Series 2 anything at this Target. I was hoping for a second Rinzler and Flynn deluxe disc. The sale seems to be depleting their stock, though. I know that I scooped up some serious $$ at Target doing price-adjustments due to the sale Wow! LOL
ToysRus: finally bought the 3-pack of diecasts. Villain set. Got lucky and found the 'orange CLU' vehicle, and another pack that had the Recognizer Variant! I really like the extra stripes. They had no extras, unfortunately of either. They also had no Hero sets...so I ordered those on ToysRus.com. I figured the shipping was worth not having to drive all over Earth to find the Hero packs.
So a decent night tonight. Alot of $$ back. More $$$ spent. LOL. It's becoming a vicious circle @_@

I overlooked the updated Sam Flynn figure on disneyshopping. Looks like a simple repaint with exsposed fingers.

Sorry about the light jet issues you are having. I have one unopened at the moment, I'll keep it as me being a completist for this line. I have come to accept the soft sculpt on the sam figure, I just want to see them release a sam figure without helmet/visor

All promo photos of Sam (including those on the cardback) show Sam like this, I doubt any actual figure looks like that though.

I saw that Sam when I ordered the new (cross fingers) Black Guard/Rinzler but I really did think he was probably just the same Sam. If you notice, there are two Sentry figures as well that have different item numbers but look pretty much the same to me! It'd be cool if they improved Sam's fingers though for sure. But I can wait to see if that shows up in stores.

Repaints allow a figure line to have longevity. (Not to mention variety.)
If they had to make a new set of production molds for every single figure in every wave, they'd go belly up in no time.

Those all sound amazing to me! I am assuming Rinzler and the Black Guard won't be Impulse Projection but maybe have some other features. I'm really excited about the 3-man Light Jet!
I wonder when they'll be out! And why hasn't SpinMaster done any promotion for this stuff?

Exactly. Some lines wouldn't even be considered for production if the oppurtunity to reuse/repaint/refresh parts for future variants weren't an option. Look at somthing like the Mattel DC Universe line. In most cases 80% of every figure is from something made previously. They have only a few different base bodies ("bucks") that they use for virtually every figure. Only the unique details/parts used for a specific character are sculpted afterwards. In most cases that comprises just a new head and nothing else. Hell, some indy vinyl guys repaint the same figure upwards of 20 times before they can justify the cost of the initial design/sculpt/molding ect.
Many years ago I collected Star Wars figures. I obsessed over every wave, character, exclusive, variant, until eventually I got burned out and stopped altogether. It sucks, but it's a necessary evil, I suppose. If they didn't make 14 "different" Vaders a year, then they'd never be able to make that obscure cantina alien with 1.6 seconds of screen time every collector has been bitching about for the past 20 years. Also remember that these are TOYS and that kids looking for main characters are what's important here.
It's all part of the game, and as was pointed out, no one is forcing you to buy it. Just get what you like and don't think of it as a missed opportunity on Spinmaster's part. Think of it as a bonus. In otherwords, it's not like they are only allowed to make say 20 Tron Legacy figures and these two variants are taking up precious slots that would have allowed for two completely new characters. It's just something nice for the completist collectors out there and for the KIDS who just want Tron and Sam. They don't care if the fingers are exposed or if the paint is derezzed.
