Can/should we consolidate threads?

on Wednesday, January, 26, 2011 6:40 AM
Since the same few topics are discussed over and over in new threads--sometimes in multiple threads at the same time--would it help if we just made a thread dedicated to each topic, made it a sticky, and made that THE place to discuss that particular topic? It seems like the same things come up every few days/every time there's a new member here (and often an issue we've come up with an explanation before is rehashed), and I can't be the only one who's tired of saying "and as I said in the other thread about this..." (or, more likely, "as I said in the other six threads about this...") Then whenever somebody comes by and starts a new thread about that particular topic, someone need only reply with "see this thread" and a link. And the rest of the board is freed up for everything else.

I'm talking making stuff like:
"the 'How did Quorra become a real person' thread"
"the 'Are Flynn/Tron really dead' thread"
"the 'Are Sam & Quorra in a relationship' thread"
"the 'Is the Grid totally destroyed or just partly' thread"
"the 'What is on Sam's memory card' thread"
"the 'Is Castor/Zuse cool or creepy' thread"
"the 'is there going to be a Tron 3/4/5/eleventy billion and what will it be about' thread"

etc.

I'd be happy to take a couple days to hunt down all the old threads and link to them in the first post of the new ones so everybody can see what has already been discussed.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

i strongly suggest we need a FAQ thread. There are many questions asked before in many different thread and it's difficult to search it. i'm sure some newcomers will come again and ask the same thing. We probably need that in favour to new fans.

Yes I think for questions that are asked over and over we should have consolidation.
But for unique and new topics and questions they deserve their own threads.

I also think we need some of Alan's popcorn in here ! BlinkySueinky:Inky

Right. The idea behind this, though, since there aren't always hard-and-fast answers, is that each question will be its own thread--because you know that in spite of the FAQ and all, someone is still going to want to discuss it further. And that way, you have everything in the same thread, no searching around, no trying to remember what you or someone else said previously, no responding the same thing to the same argument in ten different threads and having to link back to what you or others said in other threads, etc.

And then everyone can just be directed to that thread. No more wasting your time saying "well as I said over there" or "but didn't we come up with a good solution/explanation for that in another thread?" or"dude, we've answered this ten times," all we have to do is say, "here is the thread, read it, if you still have a question or idea afterward, post in that same thread." If there is ONE thread, and it's a sticky, then there is NO EXCUSE for someone to start a new one because they were too lazy or search, or to read other threads (and yes, sometimes one thread on a topic will still be active on the first page when someone else will post a new one).

Yup, and that's precisely my idea. We get a lot of original stuff in here, but often it gets lost in rehashing the same things OVER AND OVER AND OVER in ten different threads.

So, mods? Would you be willing to sticky these if I make them?
