If you look at the other threads, I think you will find it is tactics like this many of the users here have asked for. In fact, I have seen this practice used in many forums just to keep spammer and spam bots out.

It is annoying but given the constant spamming here, most of use welcome to change so we do not get a heart attack everytime we view this site.

Just as we as posters of Tron-Sector have the right to view this forum without offensive content, Auric and all others than maintain this forum have the right to use whatever means they deem necessary to ensure its integrity and to protect themselves from litigation.

Tron-Sector is just like any form of discussion service and there are rights going both ways.

Yes, I like this. Because by the time this person has 20 "posts" in--which you know will be just for the sake of posting and are unlikely to contain much real content--we'll probably have figured it out and he'll be outta here before he even gets to the image-posting stage.

Plenty of message boards function this way, with far more restrictions than this; I know of plenty of boards that require more than 20 posts, or require membership of a certain number of weeks or a month, to access restricted sections of the board, send/receive private messages, respond to polls, use the "search" function, etc. This, I think, is quite fair. It wouldn't take long to rack up 20 posts around here. And it's simply a restriction on posting images, and on number of posts that can be made. Folks just don't post images that much, and maybe a slower posting rate would force n00bs to actually read the threads before they spam us with ten threads about the same things we've been discussing over and over. (Speaking of which, Auric, what do you think of the idea in this thread re: that? http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?a=top&id=404672 There would be several separate threads so of course they wouldn't all be sticky'd--just have the FAQ thread that someone else suggested as a sticky, with links to each of the thread topics? Actually, LWSRocks, I wanted to ask you about that. Because before, you were 12, so unless you're age-regressing.... at any rate I've long wanted to tell you that you should probably hurry up and turn 13, if you know what I'm saying, because message boards tend to have a rule that you need to be 13 to post. Folks around here have been lenient, but it IS a liability thing, especially considering some of this troll stuff. Sounds good! Most forums I've ever been on, or even just seen or browsed, have regs like this. In fact, often times posts (up until the user reaches a number of posts or something similar) aren't visible at ALL until a mod okays them, so this is still very free, comparatively.
Ok, sure, trolls that stick around a year and then start trolling can still bypass this, but unfortunately this isn't a perfect world, and we can't just automatically block every sick mind that tries to spam and troll up the net, but this stops the enormous barrage of disturbing images that could be posted any time unlimitedly.
