Alan's eyeglasses from the first Tron

on Sunday, April, 17, 2011 1:21 AM
I am sure there has been a thread on this, at least, before my time here at the sector. Anyways, I couldn't find any info online after searching google.

I think we all know which glasses, if not, here's a picture.

So anyways, I'd like to acquire a pair of these eyeglasses. Bruce Boxleitner and I have a kinda similar shape head, so i think I can pull them off without looking like a dork.

So any info you guys can provide, as always, is much apprecaited.

Thanks for your time, Sectorites.

Now, back to your regular scheduled programming

Yeah, except...Bruce looked like a dork!

You might start by just asking at wherever you get your glasses (are we talking, you want to replace prescription glasses, or are these just for fashion?). They may have some retro styles similar, esp. since the 80s are supposedly "in" right now. (take a picture along so you can compare)

Alternately, you can look into vintage glasses. I know I'm always hearing ads for a place in my area that sells vintage eyewear, for example. No doubt there are others out there, and if you're having trouble finding them, you might ask at vintage clothing stores if you have any around and they might know of sources. Perhaps there are even some on the 'net.

However, I'm not sure what is involved in getting lenses for vintage eyewear that isn't currently in production. The place near me is in the "rich" town, so I think that hints at what you might be looking at cost-wise. I mean, usually most labs probably create pretty "standard" lenses to fit whatever's on the market at the time, I think--they probably just look at "oh, this is the Jessica McClintock 2347-B frame" and make a lens for it. There's probably more involved to creating a custom lens for a non-standard frame that isn't made anymore. I couldn't tell you for sure, but be prepared for that possibility and the cost that might go with it...

What do you want? I'm busy.

Program, please!
