Idea: "Welcome to 'Aperture Laboratories' program enrichment system"

Has anyone ever thought of doing a Tron mod for 'Portal'? I bet if we got the right people together we could pull it off. If anyone out there is good at moding Portal, let me know what you think.

I know the basics of mapping for Source engine. I might try something like this for Portal 2 when the SDK for it comes out.

Right now, though, I'm working on a disc wars map for Half Life 2 Deathmatch. It's on hold right now, but I might take a shot at Portal 2 mapping when I finish it assuming the SDK for it is out by the time I finish my DM map.

Considering Portal 2 is the first Valve game to use pre-rendered cutscenes (particularly the ending), I wonder if the SDK will allow us to include pre-rendered cutscene intros/outros. That'd be pretty cool.

Yes I have thought of it. but I thought only of a few things:
1: I can't mod
2: what would portals, turrets, goo (if using portal 2), and cubes be doing in a Tron game?

However, I'm sure I could be a story advisor, and find uses for everything. Ideas are already formulating!

but who would be the villain? A HUGE part of portal is GLaDos. But who would take her place? It would be lazy to recycle the MCP....... Again. Maybe it could be a user! We've never played that angle before! Like in the first Tron, when they talked to their programs? A USER could be the villain! Yeah! it's be like this!

Opening Scene:
First person view. program wakes up. (imagine the death screen in Tron 2.0, but reversed.) Program gets up. Program looks around room, When suddenly...

USER: Ah, good. My new (insert program type here) has finally completed. Hello, My name is Ryan Quincy. You are called... (hear keyboard typing) Arun. You are to find and return another program that I can't seem to find on my own, designated Poller. and good thing too! this is the PERFECT time to test you out. You'll go through the "simulation grid" on your way. Using the special attachment on you.

Arun looks at his gun.

RYAN: This should allow you to get through the many sectors with ease. Well.... sort of. Anyway, off you go! (portal opens up the way out of your cell.)

Omg yes.
Even worse, the MCP is a giant shaft, and the GLaDOS portal is a small orb with a hole in the front of it, well, multiple orbs with holes. Pun and innuendo intended.

I'm writing my own MCP program, KikiAI.
Minus the giant .. " la zor " part though. I'm not that good at quantum and photon teleportation, YET.
Have a few friends and relatives I can pick brains though about it, including an uncle with part of the space station's toilet being his design.
Astronauts take a xxxx in space partly because of my uncle.

Well, Glados would start to get angry at MCPs lack of responsibility, and probably alter his personality. it'd be okay at first, but it would lead to a divorce.

Yeah, but I think that maaaybe making Aperture Science in the same universe as encom, (and thus also the events of the half life games) just doesn't feel right. But, I like the Idea. perhaps the, "ENCOM Instant Program Routing Engine," instead?

You know... the one that keeps her from flooding the testing center with neurotoxin.

I really like the idea. I used to know how to do basic mapping for Portal 1, but not anymore. If you need voice acting I could possibly provide that. I think you guys are overthinking some things though like all the backstory. I figured that it's still going to be a testing environment, and, of course, the user testing you has a diabolical scheme ready for the engine. Well this shouldn't be too hard. We've got a forum full of creative people including SEVERAL talented artists who understand the art of Tron Completely, PLUS a forum full of people who are experts at Portal 2 modding over at thinkingwithportals.com. Not to mention the fact that Valve already has released the authoring tools for portal 2 custom level making, So I think this might not be THAT hard. The hardest part would probably be editing/modeling the models.

So let's begin discussing ideas.
1: Protagonist: Male or Female?
2: Villain: Human or Program?
3: Boss Battle.......?

Also, I would like to know how we could differentiate between a surface you can shoot on, and one you can't. Because if we're going with the new art style as seen in Tron Legacy, then most things would be black.....
