I know it's a weird topic, but is there a song you've heard/really liked that reminds you of Tron and the computer world?

The first time I heard this song, it just seemed like the perfect music to set the story too. It's a little darker in tone, but it fits.

I do wonder if anyone elses sees it that way . . .

Songs? Try whole soundtracks.

First of all, Journey - lots of it. If I'm writing for the 80's era, then use the Steve Perry tracks. If it's Legacy era, break out the Pineda. "What it Takes to Win" (Pineda-era song) is on both my Sam and Beck fan mixes. "After all these Years" is TOTALLY getting used for the Bradleys. The Pineda re-record of "Only the Young" is for all four of the "Next Gens" (Sam, Jet, Quorra, Mercury).

A few tracks of Daft Punk, of course. "Technologic," "Nightvision," and "Da Funk" for the world in general. "Verdis Quo" and "Short Circuit" for action scenes. Someone on Deviant Art did a lovely bit of T/Y fanart (that deleted scene) and captioned it with lyrics from "Something About Us," so I'll add that.

A poster on LiveJournal (she goes by Sakura123 on ff.net) actually whipped up a fanmix for Jet. Starts off with Cartel's "Retrograde," which has become his de facto "theme" when I'm writing.

As for Mercury? OK, Rebecca Romjin may have voiced her, but live action? Put P!nk in a gridsuit. I'm writing her and I fire up "Trouble." I also use Poe's "Hey Pretty," (especially the "Drive-By 2001 Mix") if I'm writing a scene with her and Jet.

Rinzler? Industrial Metal. The more wrong it sounds, and the more messed up the lyrics, the better. When I was writing "Obsidian," I had 9 Inch Nails "Closer" and "The Hand That Feeds;" Zeromancer's "Clone Your Lover," "Need You like a Drug," and their cover of "Send Me an Angel," on repeat.

Although you guys, I usually have to admit that when I write around music, it's more that I find a song that fits a scenario I'd like to write about than that the song itself necessarily screams "[x character]!!!!!" to me (like, for example, the Beat of Your Heart fic I posted a while back. Hayley Westenra + Flynn? Hardly. But the words were right). Other times, though, I feel like the music does at least fit the character (I've got part of one around Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love, supposed to be him right before he reintegrates with Clu, thinking of Jordan. Flynn would totally be into that song.)

I totally agree about Rinz + industrial, though. That and the harder electronica especially. Oh, and dubstep-- the dirtier, the better. No idea why, but it makes me think of him. He still kicks ass like Tron, but it's all much, much darker and harder.
