I asked that question recently and we don't have any special incite into why the number 3 shows up so much but there is some thoughtful speculation. I don't know how it could be attributed to Rinzler; it's not directly connected to him. The closest it comes to Rinzler was on a door of Clu's ship and on the ground when Rinzler was tracking Flynn. But it's on the floor of the recognizer, the floor at the armory, the door entering the games, inside Flynn's light cycle, and of course on Sam's helmet and on the scoreboard of the games.

If I remember correctly, as for the ISO symbols, the hex with the V indicated female, and the hex with the T indicated male. At least, that's what I read you were given to choose from in a video game to determine your program's gender.

Which brings up a whole other question about gender when it comes to ISOs as opposed to programs, but I'll let that sit.


As for the three, I'm not sure exactly what it means. I have some ideas though.

First, there were three builders of the Grid initially. Tron, Flynn, and Clu.

Second, it could refer to the three Flynns, Flynn, Sam, and Clu. Sorta.

It could also refer to the fact that TECHNICALLY, Legacy is the THIRD entry into the TRON universe in a visual medium. TRON 2.0 came out in '03.

There are three points to a T.

The number 3 has a lot of religious significance.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Kevin & Sam are the only users to have entered "The Grid" (the server setup in the basement of Flynn's arcade). The number 3 only makes sense if another user visited the grid. Is it possible Kevin shared his secret w/ someone else before Legacy???

So there's another set of three: Flynn, Sam, and Quorra all lived in both worlds. It would be interesting if it's a hint to TR3N, that there's a third user. Mayhaps that's why Alan was so "Wouldn't that be something?" Maybe he knew what was going on, but had no Clu (pardon the pun, couldn't resist) how to help out.

Somewhere I've wondered that in at least one thread, but without making Alan malicious, I can't think how he would just sit on the knowledge for 20 years and not do anything about it...
