I apologize, I looked through quite a few pages, and I couldn't find anything, and the Search seems to not be working, so...
With me being a newbie,
(<-- See? Newbie)
I am curious if there's a rhyme or reason to the colors, of the glow on characters? Do greens only hang out with greens, blues with blues, so on and so forth? The reds seem to be part of the ruling group, I've seen greens in various spots, but just trying to get an idea if there's particular people who get certain colors? Just know that I only have the original movie and Legacy as my knowledge, so please be gentle

The greens are the ISO survivalist, they live outside of the city in Bostrum Colony.
The whites i think are the activist, they fight against the oranges/ red/yellows
The blues just do anything and everything on the grid
The oranges/reds fight against everyone else and are loyal to CLU 2
The yellows are the leaders (CLU 2)

Concerning Legacy it goes like this
White: Users, Those connected to Flynn, End Of Line Club Programs, ISOs
Blue and Green: Basics (there were some green ones in the disc wars and light cycles)
Green: ISOs from Bostrum Colony
Yellow/Green: Virus
Yellow: Superiority
Orange: Clu's cronies, bad guys
As for original Tron
Blue: Good programs who believe in the users
Red: Bad programs who reject the users
Green: Military
Yellow: Hacking programs
And citizens were all the colors of the rainbow :P

Yes, in Tron 2.0. I've never played the game, but I know purple is in there.

Theres only purples in Tron 2.0. If you play any of the Tron Evolution games purple ones are oft times in multiplayer(PS3, XBOX360) or when you customize your character (Wii, DS, PSP)

I read a magazine article explaining the colors and they said the EOL club guys have silver....but their lights are white. I guess their class shows moreso through their white/silver clothing

Well, if you want to maintain the illusion that the system is not becoming a totalitarian regime you allow a little freedom in certain places. What better than to keep a club that already caters to inter-program mingling to continue. Plus you can always plant your agent-provacateurs in the club more discretly if there is more of a variety of programs to hide amongst.

According to the ending credits in Tron Legacy, there was a purple combatant in the movie.

Purple programs in Tron 2.0 were F-Con programs and users.
According to the official site for Tron Legacy, the colors represent the following:
White (Higher Functions): Programs associated with higher functions are most known for looking out for personal interests rather than the Grid as a whole or those established by Clu, the ultimate leader in the Grid.
