"Where's Gaius?" That was the security program Encom had replaced Tron with back in the 80s; Sam and Alan had told me that the board had forced the disuse of Tron, hence why Sam's dad had moved Tron to his own system. According to Alan-- a bitter note still in his voice-- the Board considered Alan's program had done its job in dealing with the Master Control Program incident and had mistakenly considered Tron to be too specialized for their needs. Instead, they'd had a team of programmers create a new, "well-rounded" security program, and Encom had used it ever since.

Edward hesitated before he answered me.

"Gaius wasn't able to handle this. He... it... he... was captured. Um, isolated."

"I've seen enough. Let's get out of here."

Back in the digitization lab, Edward looked at me.

"I don't know what to do, Elise. This is beyond anything I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. This thing is moving at lightning speed, and I still can't find the source nor how to kill the processes. Just shutting down the system isn't going to solve the problem. I don't know who could help." I turned to him.

"I know someone who can."


Cue rescuing Gaius, among other things, yada yada.

(In the end, Sam ends up insisting on putting Tron back on the Encom system)

(Premise behind this is that Sam finds out Dillinjr's been hanging out in the digitization lab at Encom asking questions...calls him into his office and gives him hell. Later, my OC-- acting as Sam's executive assistant currently while she finishes grad school-- is suspicious but doesn't want to go through Sam because she knows when it comes to Dillinjr, he's going to automatically have a knee-jerk reaction. She comes in on a Saturday to snoop around and finds that Dillinjr is indeed hacking in the digitization system and figures he's going in there. Only today there's a problem and he's got the system quarantined; when she confronts him he admits there's some new virus or trojan in there that he can't figure out how to fix, so she goes and gets Sam/Alan/Tron and in they go.)
