*sigh* Okay. For the benefit of cool83 and anyone else who apparently hasn't been paying enough attention to the full spectrum, the OWS protest movement isn't about "blame the rich" and it isn't about lazy iPad owners wanting everything handed to them on a silver platter. If that's the perception you have, then you clearly need to get out more. OWS wants two things: 1) the rich to pay their fair share in taxes, and 2) to get corporate lobbying out of the American political system. Taxpayers (you and me and everyone else that you know) bailed out Wall Street and the banks turned around and gave themselves record bonuses. Politicians on both sides of the aisle are bought out every day by the "job creators" in exchange for sustainable loopholes that let them keep jobs out of this country and back door deals that permit them to shrug having to pay taxes on the billions they take in. OWS' message is clear. The only reason you don't get it is because your information influx of choice is on the side of the status quo and NOT on the side of We The People. It's just that simple. And please, don't get all butthurt and start slinging insults. If you're not in the wealthy elite (and I'm almost willing to guarantee you aren't) then you stand to gain from OWS' attempts at ensuring that we all get a fair say and that we all play by the rules.

If we ever needed a Tron to fight for the users, it's now.

What is happening in the U.S. and around the world is the merger of state and corporate power better known as fascism. The corporated controlled media focuses only on the protesters who mistakenly are blaming the economy on the failure of capitalism. In capitalism, you rise and fall on your own merits. Profits are kept private and losses are kept private. This is not what happened with the "too big to fails". Profits were kept private, but losses were showered upon the American people. Again this is fascism. Worst of all, there is rampant evidence of fraud by the crooks on Wall Street and banks, but not one of them has been prosecuted. THIS is what OWS is angry about, not some BS from a corporate boot licking talking head on CNN, MSNBC or Fox News.

Look at how much power the MPAA, RIAA, Big Pharma, and Big Agra now has over congress to pass legislation that benefits them but penelizes the regular joes. CD/DVD sniffing dogs at the airport, SOPA, PIPA, immunity from lawsuits for vaccines, mandated use of GMOs, etc. The list goes on and on.

Exactly. The corporate mantra of the 21st century is "privatize the profits, socialize the losses." It's not bad enough that our elected officials have done everything they can to maintain such a despicable mindset, but that so many of our fellow Americans are happy to champion the "rights" of the corporations to enact legislature by themselves and for themselves that's the real heartbreaker. And what's truly ironic is that the OWS movement has basically taken up the charge that the ORIGINAL Tea Party (of the Boston harbor variety) once championed, that being an end to corporate tyranny while demanding the installation of a democratic system of government for the people. Until TRUE reform takes place, this will never be a free system. Some could argue that it's already too late.

Two of the OWS demands are a "living wage" for everyone, even if you don't work and a $20 minimum wage. I am not the one who is lost. They are funded by George Sorros, a Obama supporter and financial contributor. They are just puppets for the Socialist Movement. Be informed, please.

And... I rest my case. I'd happily debate you on this (and you would lose miserably) but I have a bit more respect for this forum and its members and would rather discuss these films than engage in threadjacking political discussions.

Please do us a favor and keep your poorly informed partisan crap slinging to yourself. There is no place for your kind of incendiary ignorance here.

Good night, and good luck.

Well I must agree on the part that says this is taking over the thread, I think all protests are useless as they rarely make a change and cause people to look down on the group that does it.
Now come on guys, back to the original topic please! Go fight in some political thread that I wont be in!!

Wow, getting Soros misinformation from one of the corporate talking heads like Glenn "i am a rodeo clown" Beck or Rush "drug war hypocrite" Limbaugh?

Reuters was the outlet that "broke" that story, but then had to quietly pull the article and replace it with this one:

Soros: not a funder of Wall Street protests
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/14/us-wallstreet-protests-funding-idUSTRE79D01Q20111014
(Reuters) - George Soros isn't a financial backer of the Wall Street protests, despite speculation by critics including radio host Rush Limbaugh that the billionaire investor has helped fuel the anti-capitalist movement.
As for people wanitng a living wage, why does this alarm you so much? Not everyone is as fortunate as you to be in the right place at the right time to be as "rich" as you. Even though the world economy is teetering on the edge, exec salaries are at record levels and their bonuses have never stopped, while they outsource and downsize worker pools tossing aside like trash workers who have been loyal to the companies for their entire working lives. Then these corporations get huge tax breaks even to the point some pay NOTHING, while the regular joes who don't have multiple offshore accounts get stiffed for 40%+. It is unreasonable for people to want a modicum of fairness?

Have you even looked at the mortgage backed securities fraud that created the 2008 crash? If you honestly do some research it becomes infuriating at what was allowed to take place and how much the psychopathic money junkies got away with and not one of them is even facing jail time. There is government corruption through and through.

The U.S. Treasury’s Office of Thrift Supervision (page 7):

The FBI estimates that 80 percent of all mortgage fraud involves collaboration
or collusion by industry insiders.

Even Alan Greenspan admitted that there was fraud and criminality that lead to the 2008 crash:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=731G71Sahok
And there is tons of more evidence right out in the open. The people that are criticizing the OWS either are completely ignorant as to what is really going on with the economy or think they are immune. For example, if you think the MF Global theft of $1.2+ billion from customer accounts doesn't affect you, well it turns out MANY of those ripped off were farmers and farming associations. Do you think your food prices are going to stay the same when they have to secure loans, or god forbid mortgage the farm, just to buy feed and seed? Oh by the way, it is over a month now and NO ONE has been held accountable for the MF Global theft.

Come on guys, please stop this. This whole discussion is getting stupid. Why not make a thread for this over in the "Other Sectors" topic?

If you can afford to drop 55K+ on a Parker Brothers/Evolve Light Cycle just for the hell of it, then you are the 1%. I'm willing to bet that doesn't include anyone in this thread.

And as far as the statement that "all protests are useless as they rarely make a change and cause people to look down on the group that does it" I'd suggest you check out what's been going on in other countries. Protests with a just cause behind them are not only popular, but they're effective at achieving change. The difference in this country is that we're encouraged to follow blindly and not rock the boat, and when someone stands up for something relevant that threatens that status quo, they get the heel of the boot.

In relation to the Tron universe, imagine the Grid if no one had stood up to the MCP. Protest via revolutionary action is what freed the system. We didn't look down on the ones who took up the fight. We cheered them on as heroes.

Freedom, whether in the Real World on or the Grid, is a relative concept that has multiple ramifications. One is never truly free unless they have a voice in the decisions that are supposedly made in their best interest. Whether it's the MCP dictating how the Grid is to be run or its corporations buying out our elected politicians so they can continue to make laws that elevate their own status while punishing everyone else, it's wrong. A free system is the only way everyone wins.

Who will you stand with when the time comes, Program?

I know in other countries they do make a change more often since the laws are different, but I thought we are all talking about here. At the moment I cant buy one for that much, but I am sure that there are more then 1% that can. But anyway I am Canadian and we are different about this, even though there occupy protests springing up here too. As far as the freedom thing that would mean we are in a perfect world, and we aren't yet. And I am not going to stand with any protest or anyone "when the time comes", unless our life depended on it. But likely still not.

I don't think it's so much a matter of practicality as it is legality. In some states, it may be illegal to drive with unapproved additional lights on a vehicle. I guess it would depend on each individual case, but I think particular types and colors of lights are prohibited while driving. If the vehicle is parked, it may be another matter. So if you were just showing your car at a car show or something, that would probably be fine. But you wouldn't be able to operate the vehicle while the lights are on. I don't know too much about it, but if you're going to really "TRON" out your vehicle, it would definitely be something to research beforehand.
