I know there is another space paranoids game out there already, but just like any TRON re-make, you can never have enough of them. So my brother and I started brain storming last week. He's working on the graphics, sounds, models and I'm doing the coding. I coded all day yesterday and so far we have a map based on the layout from the TRON arcade game that you can drive around in. When I compile it or get some screen shots I'll post them.

Well I can't get a screenshot just yet, but here's a link to what we have done so far:

We still have a lot of work to do, like:
The canyon walls are gonna be re-done so they look like the movie
The recognizer needs textures (that work!)
The floor is going to be all 3D
The tank round needs a real model
There is no sound (except for bit, he freaks out when you run into a wall!)
Model Scaling needs to be tweaked
No AI and the recognizer doesn't move yet
Jeez! what a laundry list!
But for coding for one day with no previous darkbasic experience, I think its going rather well! 
BTW let me know if you have problems with it, and its set to 640 x 480 right now cause im building it on my laptop and when I go to 1024 x 768 I lose fog and some texturing. The final will probably have a video mode selector.

Well I fixed it so it runs at 1024x768x16

its a little bit bigger, about 1.1mb
and the red tank body is only for my collision detection, it will go away soon.

RCON,
Game looks great so far. I DL'd and played your latest version and would like to comment on it. I didn't come across any enemies or tanks while floating around the areas, although I was able to shoot the main weapon at walls. LOL, you did mention that AI movement, etc. wasn't installed yet. 
Have you added more since the update from your last post? From the latest screenshot, it looks like you have more of the walls done and a tank perspective in there. Very cool looking!
Also, Do you have plans for mood music? If you need help with background music, don't hesitate to ask me. I'd be more than happy to help out with a music soundtrack if you need it. My main interest for a long while now is in finding a Tron fan game to make music for. Meantime, feel free to check out the Tron MIDI's I've made so far at my website.
Other than that, keep up the good work, it's lookin' good!
EDIT: btw, when i played the last version, I was under the assumption that I was a recognizer going around looking for tanks to blast! hahaha. i just realized that it's the other way around isn't it? the 1st person perspective threw me off a bit, heh heh, c'est la vie. Although it'd still be fun to take control of a Recognizer!

Wow, you've really got the details. Very cool.
The only thing that seems a little off is the chin area on the recognizer. You'll notice the chin sticking out when looking at a worms eye view of the recognizer.

The one thing that I have always tried to figure out is does the driver sit up at the top where the yellow light is, or down at the bottom area where the chin piece is? It almost seems it would be in the top.
