Wouldn't Firefox + Adblock + No Script prevent people from getting those nasty popups unless they are getting through somehow?
ETA-- I know I've had popups get through despite my protections and that ticks me off!

Well... the thing is only 20% of Tron-Sector's users have either a Mac at home or Firefox installed (at the most) so it's always a good thing when someone cares for the 'majority' and that include me... Thanx for the advice Mr. Sinistar.
You need to check out the COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL TRON TIMELINE!

Not to put you down Kia. But I will agree there are far fewer viruses out there in the world of Linux and Unix variants than there are in the world of Microsoft. Even if there was a virus for a Linux or a Unix variety. It is usually an exploit somewhere within an application which can be easily taken care and updated. Where as with the windows environment it might take a bit longer.
With the Unix and Linux variant it is more difficult to get it done since there are not as many virus programmers out there doing the virus thing under Linux/Unix than there is for the windows variants. It is a lot easier to make it under windows than it is under Linux or Unix. Cause I am also running a Linux and Unix Variants under two different machines. But they do exists but not as often. And usually they are published behind the scenes when it does happen.
Also one other thing that I might want to add here as well. the way that Unic or Linux handle executables are very much different than windows. Since Linux and Unix Treats the hardware completely different than the way Windows does and from what I remember reading up for linux it is harder than normal to get a cirus into alinux or unix variant.
And what I know from Mac OSX it is based off of a version of BSD a version of Unix or Linux variant. And more or less closed source than is with the Linux community with its way of treating the Linux as an open source project with 350+ distros out there of linux.

I'm just saying-- not everyone has the money to plunk on an expensive apple product or have the time/patience to learn a unix/linux variant. (Linux Mint is neat though!)
My point: No OS fanboyism, please! It's annoying. Mainly because just changing OSes won't get rid of the viruses, you'll still get new virsues and/or exploits. There is no 100% foolproof OS-- those moronic virus writers will keep finding a way to hit *all* platforms. Windows just happens to be the popular one because just about everyone uses them except for those who can afford apple computers and/or have extensive experience with unix/linux.
...yeah, kinda tl;dr right there.

I know Kia and I am backing you up on this I know what your talking about on it. It was for the others that may not know about it who hasn't used a Unix or a Linux environment. That I was just providing some of the things that are not really talked about in the MS and Mac camp. Yes Mint is a neat one as a alternate.
Traahn- What no peak in there??? I remember that one the Model I especially. with just basic and a cassette tape player to write to or read off of for the programs to load or to save to. That is going back a long time ago and on a planet far far away.

Just for your info MAC OS was developed from debian and still identifies itself as such if you boot in verbose mode.

Hah, leave it to Apple. I bet now I'll run into some Mac fanboy at work that claims "Steve Jobs invented Debian!" (Also, my apologies if I offended anyone who is a fan of Apple. I'm just a, currently mildly irritated, Debian user, haha) __________________________

Actually I can correct you on that Jerrytron. Apple Mac OSX is based on BSD unix from Berkley and not from Dabien. And is a close source of unx. I've been reading up since OSX came onto the scene when they went from the older OS that they were using for the motorola line of processors. If it was based on Dabien the source code and most of the software including OSX would have been available under the GNU open source License. Since it is BSD it is not open source and people who are running on AMD, Intel, Mips, RISC, SPARC procsessors cannot use the version that Apple has for it's line of computers including the intel based desktops and laptops. But that is besides the point. To what Kia had mentioned earlier on.
You can almost verbose in any unix or linux base when you know what is require on the distrobution in question.
Note: Here is a little bit of a back of of where the origins of Mac OSX came from. I almost forgotten at they had openstep technologies used in it as well. Another Unix OS that ran on the Next stations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X

No worries about that we all have preference on things And teh Operating that each of us use will always be one on preferences Whether its a MS, APPLE, unix or linux varient. So don't fret.

Bigbangbilly.exe has been banned from TRON-Sector. We sent him repeated warnings about his behavior, but he didn't listen. We've all had enough of his antics. (Thank you, Auric!)
We can now, hopefully, resume our discussions without random nonsensical posts cluttering up the forum every day.
Back on-topic, hope that Wikia sorts out the problem Mr. Sinistar! Any word on if they've solved the problem yet?
