yeah...I agree...still scratching my head on that one...sometimes with these ARG you need the right person with the right background knowledge to figure it out and that person might not be among us right now.

on a weird note...still trying find the easter eggs...if any on those 5 original newsclippings. (I belive nothing ever came of these...and still stuck on the fact why did they give us the first article again...why?) is it just background fiction filler - part of the story or are they really hard riddle clues.

The one that says "Dead or In Love?" As an anagram you could also say "Dead or Live On?"...maybe just co-incidental. The IN LOVE stuck out like a sore thumb to me...Also why do they spell ENCOM as EnCom?... maybe its nothing...

Oddly enough, that seems to me like exactly the sort of thing that could slip through the production cracks. Like, the original graphic was further discolored at the last minute before it was posted, and then when it was updated, they forgot that step.

But that still begs the question: if it was changed, then why? Is the text different?

Reading the wiki article about this event that happened AFTER the date on the article (which seems like it may be made to look as if it's from Investor's Business Daily), the related links point to the IMAX film Everest. Just thinking it may be a subtle nod to the 5 (there's that damn number again) IMAX-sized action scenes in the film. I haven't hunted around the other stub articles from the clippings yet.

Ok. I used good 'ol "brute force" and just created boxes of color over what are obviously color bars.

I did this test on the first lightcycle photo.

I didn't waste my time trying to shift pixels...if more than 50% of the area looked green..orange...red...etc...I did a photoshop bucket fill into the area to create a color block.

there were two rows that were off alignment slightly - but I nudged them to the right or left respectively.

I also eliminated what appears to be duplicate data

Then in Illustrator I cleaned up the file using square blocks.

Interesting enough...I get 5 rows of 20 blocks

maybe 5 codes of 20 characters? I heard the derez site accepts up to 20 characters...but then again there are two photos...

so now - how do you decipher what the colors are?

baudot code is binary - on or off...

Baudot is 5bit binary...so it could still be possible if we knew the colors...

If it is Baudot...then this is a 20 character answer.

Fractured Pixels is right! most clues we've got so far are little "bits" of information (excuse the pun).

I hope someone can figure this out soon....
