Beefkiller Wrote:I'm diggin this new Tron style. I was 6 when Tron came out, and watched it many times. Tron Legacy wont suck, heck its better looking then most movies that are out right now.
Anyways, I do love the suits, the lightcycles, and of course the new look of the Recognizers. We gotta learn to stop looking at the past and start looking at the future of things. Things won't be the same as the original. If that happened, it would just be too boring, seeing it in the same format over and over and over again.

Beefkiller, I see what you're saying, but so many times too many people in this day and age forget that something came before them - and many films are not immune from that mistaken viewpoint. I'll also admit that I've probably watched the new trailer about 15 times now (LOL!!!!), and I'm trying hard to keep an open mind, as there's still a few things that don't jive with me, and I'll say that maybe I'm wrong:
a)the whole thing about the old ENCOM server evolving without an internet connection - sounds like a possible PLOT-HOLE to me. . .Hmmmm. . . . . .;
b)Rain, Lightning, and Thunder in the computer world - maybe this, (like the spring in the 1st film which rejuvenated Tron, Flynn, and Ram after they drank from it) is a religious metaphor; maybe the inside world, though it is extremely dangerous, is "cleansed" by this rain.
At the same time, I think there may be some incorporation of Greek mythological structure, which could be cool, if done right:
a)the whole Sirens thing - this reminds me of Greek mythology, as in that myth, Sirens were Women who basically symbolized a fatal temptation; In this film, it looks like they are associated with death in that they give you give you armor to help you fight in the disc battles (maybe there's something else tied into them - won't know until 12/17);
b)Flynn's hideout - the shot where Clu and his minions storm it (???) to me, also has a Zeus-looking-down-from-Mt.Olympus type of vibe, especially with the HUGE window in the background, when we get the reverse-angle of that shot;
c)the Light Cycle arena - the more I look at this part, it makes more sense to me and is akin to the gladiator games in ancient Greece and Rome: I even look back at the first film and now wonder why the only observers on the game grid were Sark and his lackeys, especially since there were TONS of programs in other sectors;
d)The new suits - I'm almost starting to come around to them, LOL!!!I was just thinking of that lady program in the first film with the wild hair, and the helmeted guy standing by her - was wondering if he was the computer world-equivalent of a pimp, and if she was the computer world-equivalent of a "lady of the evening", LOL!!!!
In closing, I remember how the first film awed me - and still does to this very day; I just hope I get the same feeling and appreciation on 12/17/10.
