Wow! Thanks for pointing that out, Lew! I had no idea...
You can just make it out in this image:
Well, I guess the joke is on me...Ol' girl was right! (Well, sort of.)
But as others have pointed out, several of her arguments fall flat, due to her lack of understanding of the social culture at the time TRON came out.
She dismisses both older and younger audiences, as if there is NO target demographic for TRON: Legacy. As Sean Bailey said in an interview I saw once, this movie is coming out at this point in time partly because those 11-12 year old kids who saw it in the theaters originally and loved it, now have 11-12 year old kids of their own that they can take to see the sequel. So both parent and child are excited to see the film. THAT'S your demographic.

(Of course, then there are all the other age ranges in between that are excited to see this film too!)
And the whole Matrix comparison is an old, tired, worn-out argument that has been discussed ad nauseam elsewhere. Therefore, I'm not going to discuss it here.
I truly hope the writer sees the new film and is impressed by it. Maybe she'll be so impressed that it will change her mind about some of the statements she put forth in this article and write a new article showing her change of opinion...
I'm not holding my breath.
All I really know is what TRON means to me, and how profoundly it has affected my life. I'm looking forward to the sequel with the excitement of an 11-year old kid whose imagination was set afire by a world he had never seen before...
On December 17th, 2010, I know where I'll be.
