Lost Scenes

on Friday, January, 28, 2005 1:31 AM
This topic is dedicated to a few of the lost scenes from TRON.

We all know about the love scene and the morning after sequences, but how many of you know about the other missing scenes in the film?

Here's where we will take a look at some items you may have never seen before.

I think you will all enjoy this.

So let's start with the Sark Ring Game sequence.

The evidence appears in the trailer for the National Association of Theatre Owners, the NATO Trailer, that can be seen on both the Laserdisc and 20th Anniversary DVD versions.

Here is a short clip of that section.

View Clip

It's obvious the sequence was completed to a certain level, but it was cut from the film.

While scanning materials from Harrison Ellenshaw's collection i found the following images in a production folder.

I have asked Steven, Richard and Harrison about the scene and why it wasn't used in the final film. Steven was the only one to offer an explaination. He said "There may have been a bit of Sark gaming but when we realize DW couldn't move we probably ditched it."

I'd love to see the entire sequence unedited to see what could have been.

I hope you all have enjoyed this.

I always knew stuff for that scene existed somewhere. I never even knew Harrison it hidden away somewhere. I wonder if the follow on scene after Sark plays the ring game was ever shot where he talks with some other programs who tell him how good he is.

Another a little cut I wonder if it was filmed as where Ram is talking to Crom and Crom talks a little about his admiration for TRON before seeing TRON himself in the holding cell next to his. And TRON then vows to get out.

Yes, I remember that scene from one of the trailers on the DVD. (Fortunately Disney was nice to us and the 20th Anniversary Edition has everything from the Laser Disc version, plus more. Well, except the cool disc sleeves and large booklet. )

I'm think there might be some other little snips of footage in those early trailers, that didn't make it into the film. But that one is the most memorable.

I'm curious about Steven's explanation. I wonder if what he meant, was that because of the camera system they used, having the actors move during close-ups was difficult to do. The depth of field where the actor was in focus for a shot, was very limited. I remember him saying something about this in the commentary.

DW=David Warner

Steven was referring to a lack of athleticism on the part of DW in those scenes while wearing that costume. Apparently it didin't look right on film.

From the little bits we can see though, it looks good to me.

Ah . . . LOL.

I knew Steven said he was thin in the commentary, but . . . heh. Besides, I think his "presence" more than made up for that. Mr. Warner acted with an air of authority and determination that fit perfectly for the character of Sark. He made it look easy, in fact. Oh well, I'm sure Steven made the right choice.

I wonder if anyone else has ever noticed this. The lightcycle scene is not the only part of the film that had music that wasn't included. The scene when Flynn drives his recongizer off that cliff and losses control of it actually has background music. It's on the tron-sountrack. Magic Landings at 01:46 of the song. I doubled checked this by playing the soundtrack in a cd player and watching the recognizer sequence. The music would have begun the second you see the recognizer cutting a corner before we see Flynn comenting about how good his driving iwhere he falls off that cliff where bit replies. The music really adds alot to the whole recognizer sequence. It would be awsome if someone here could add the music into the video.

I'm curious about the Data Pushers and how much more Lisberger was going to show of them. In the production photos of the dvd, you get to see some extra images of data pushers walking around and talking to one another as Tron watches.

Hold on, Dave.... there's a logical explanation for this. Sketch was abducted by space aliens and then suddenly got ubber cool mind-reading power. *Nods* That's what I think happened.

I think if William Shatner were in Tron instead of Star Trek he would have won awards long before now

Is this music on the DVD or separate CD soundtrack?

Sorry - too lazy to check my DVD right now

Oh - DaveTRON - if this scenario is already in the works - please feel free to edit my post with a "Sorry - jumped the gun and edited the post!" reply.
