I have to say I'm with Rusty on this one. I just did the rounds at all the Wal-Marts, Targets and Fred Meyers (local chain). Wal-Mart had series 2, but only 3 figures on the shelf, and no re-shelf slips like the Star Wars and DC Universe. Target had the same basic series 1 stuff, overpriced as well, and Fred Meyer had the figures clearanced at $5. I got a Kevin FLynn lightcycle for $7. Out of the two figures I got, one of them broke coming out of the package, and the other, Kevin, looks atrocious. I'll be attempting that mod.
I'm worried the line will be canceled before we get to wave III. This line has so much potential, but from what I've come to learn from reading through this thread, SM is kinda... I dunno. Procrastinating.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Damn, shame I don't have any Fred Meyers here. Where's the best place to buy the basic figures at these days other than that? I saw they were going for $10 at Target and $10.50 at the Disney Store, but I'm not sure what Toys R US or Wal-Mart is selling them for.

Wal-Mart was running about $9.99. The Target I went to was $8.99. Toys R Us is also $8.99, I believe.
I'm heading back to pick up a new CLU, Rinzler, and maybe a Black Guard. I'd get the Sentry to try one of those black-suit Kevin mods, but I don't trust myself to do a good mod. I'd just waste my time and money, which is very valuable when you have no job.

I somewhat agree with Rusty, but you have to remember that this is the first time SpinMaster has done an action figure line. They are going to make mistakes, but they'll hopefully learn from them. I do hope the toy line lasts though. I do wonder what the toy line would have been like if they had gone with Hasbro or even NECA.

Hey all. Had a question. Anyone noticed on the back of the wave 2 die casts packs that the grid limo pictured is blue but the one they sell is orange? Is there anything to that or just bad printing and not a variant of the die cast to come. Yep, it's come up a few times. We don't really know the answer. Probably just a change that was made after the packaging was done. Maybe they found out red was more screen accurate?

They actually just did the quickly cancelled and forgotten about "Last Airbender" action figures. The human sculpts actually looked good for a 3 3/4 inch line. I'm not sure what happened with TRON...
I have to disagree with the complaints that this line has problems. I have been a figure collector for many many years, and an "adult" collector for longer than I should admit. I have collected Marvel Legends figures, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe, Lord of the Rings, and various other movie figures. TRON has been one of the easiest lines to find out of all of those. Sadly, I have passed on collecting TRON figures for myself because I haven't really been happy with the end product, but I have bought my kids just about everything that has been released from the 3 3/4 inch line, including all the vehicles.
Sure Spinmaster's communication with "the fans" sucks, but I don't think they have ever had a "nerd" line before and they don't know the protocol. They are known for Bakugan, radio control, and various "arts and crafts" type products.

All good points, Rusty, but I think being savvy to "nerds" is much different than being savvy to kid collectors.
Kids don't demand much in the way of toy news. Toyfare, Tomart's, and Lee's aren't made for "kids". Some kids may read them, but it's the "adult collector" that wants the news.
My kids have some Bakugan toys, but they aren't nuts about them (as you said...THANK GOD).
To my original point, Hasbro and the adult collectible companies like McFarlane, NECA, and the many others that had come and gone over the years made huge strides in the "nerd community" at large by having fairly open communication with the "fans" , but I just don't think Spin Master even has us on the radar. I could be wrong, but I think they underestimated the appeal to adults, and we see that reflected in their communication to the "interwebs". Unless Wheatking is the designated "sponsor", but I don't think he is. He seems more like a fan that happens to work at Spin Master.

I just checked the Wal-Mart near work (Canton, Ga) and what Tron stuff they had left was moved to the clearance aisle. They had a few series 1 core figures for $7, all of the deluxe figures for $14.99 and a ton of the Kevin Flynn cycle for $11.
I doubt that store will be seeing any series 2 stuff, seems like Target is the only place to bother looking around here.

The line may not have problems with the distribution, but it certainly has problems. As you said you passed for yourself because you weren't happy with the product. It's not a good sign when people who are a fan of something and looking to buy merchandise decide to pass.
I saw the movie and went to Toys R Us immediately after to check the toys out. I WANTED to buy Tron toys, but after looking at them I ended up walking out empty handed. I liked the vehicles. The Light Cycle and Runner looked really cool. But then I looked at the Sam Flynn figure, who's head looks pretty awful, and it completely turned me off on the entire line. If I can't have a decent looking version of the main character what's the point? The fact that neither Clu nor Quorra got human heads, and Kevin's head needs work before looking presentable didn't help to sway me either. The one figure that was gonna get me to pull the trigger, Castor, was indefinitely pulled.
Spin Masters has made a lot of questionable decisions with this line, and that's putting it kindly. Running the Identity Discs off of watch batteries and not having a continuously lit mode was a huge let down. The same goes for the cycles and runner. Not being able to attach the Identity Discs to the 4 inch figure's backs is another disappointing loss of something that should have been a given. The articulation used for the legs is very impractical and not user friendly. I know Hasbro's been using that type of leg joint for a while now, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. Legs should be able to move forward and back easily ESPECIALLY when you're gonna have vehicles to interact with.
It'd be nice if they were able to offer improved versions of Sam, Quorra, Clu, and Rinzler/Tron in a future wave with light discs that can attach to their backs, reworked leg articulation, and either helmetless or with removable helmets. I don't think that's likely to happen though, and to be honest they should have gotten these things right in the first place. Maybe if that Castor figure ever gets released I'll decide to pick some of these up, but as of right now having recently seen the movie, this is the time I would be most likely to go on a shopping spree for Tron toys, but I'm too meh about everything that's out right now to care. I've only bought a deluxe Identity disc, and even that I am not happy with because it doesn't stay lit. where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online End of line |

Zuse, I did mis-communicate when I said that the line didn't have problems. I was thinking specifically about distribution when I said that.
You make very good points that I 100% agree with. That said, the figures aren't total crap. They were better out of the package than I expected. Sure, you can't attach the disc to the back, but there is a molded disc, which is great for kids (that are going to lose the discs in .5 seconds anyway)
Articulation is OK, it has the problems you mentioned.
The sculpts are generally passable, except the human likenesses. What happened there? We have seen better stuff than that for the past 10 years in the industry. I'm saddened and confused. The funny thing is, however, is that when I asked my kids if they cared that the face sculpts were "off"... they said that it didn't really bother them. That it was "close enough". So that is a very small market research sample, but I think it's probably reflective of other's kid's views as well.
The only thing they were disappointed with is that the helmets didn't come off at all. They immediately started headswapping with Star Wars and G. I. Joe figures to make their own helmetless versions.
Another suggestion I would make for the line as a whole is to dump the light up feature. It costs too much extra and I don't think the kids really care about it either way. Get rid of it and charge a couple bucks less, improve the human likenesses and I think collectors would start picking these up more as well.

I think the bodies look very nice, I have no complaints there. It's not one big problem with the figures, it's just various little things that add up. If they had removable helmets I'd easily let everything else slide. If they had good leg joints and discs that could attach to the back I'd be more inclined to forgive the human heads, or lack thereof. But when you add it all together it just seems like I'm sacrificing too much for my $8 - $10. I might feel differently if I end up seeing them for $5 in the future, but as of right now I don't feel anything urging me to pull the trigger on these at full price. I'm just waiting for Toy Fair at this point to see what Spin Masters has to show, if anything. It wouldn't take much to rope me in because I really want to want this line, but I do need something more than what's currently being offered.
PS
Just to add to my list of small problems that add up. Figures like Clu's Sentry, Kevin Flynn, Jarvis, and Quorra have skirts, and people claim that the plastic is too hard and it hinders their articulation (which is already hard enough to work with given the leg joint used). Normally I would be more forgiving about something like this, but since they interact with vehicles and some of them need to sit, they really needed to have soft rubbery plastic in those parts.
Also the overall build quality is a concern for me. When I hear of people breaking figures right out of the package that makes me feel hesitant about investing in the line. I saw for myself first hand when I went to Toys R Us after the movie a Clu figure who's head was already broken off IN the package. Maybe you guys could elaborate on this for me though. How common is the breakage? Are there any problem figures/joints or is it just a totally random thing? I pose my figures a lot and can't afford to always be worrying about breaking them every time I move a joint.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlinewhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

I was worried about breakage at first as well, but it might have just been a bad initial batch. My kids are pretty rough on toys (go figure... ), and we haven't had any breakage yet. We have all the figures but Jarvis and Clu (and of course, Castor). I actually have a Jarvis in package, but they need to "earn" it by doing chores. http://www.10mfh.com, a great place to read nerdy stuff! |

Well, initially I never had a problem with the figures breaking. Though when I opened one of the new series 2 Clu figures, the head snapped off when I tried to turn it. So I don't think its an issue of being a bad first run or anything. Sometimes these things slip past QA because they're too hard to spot without giving the figure a complete workout before packaging it. However, its the first and only time (so far) that I've had one of their figures break on me.
I was a bit put off by the head sculpt of Kevin and Sam as well, but like the kids, it didn't stop me from buying and enjoying them. I don't have any kids, so the decision and interest in the line is all mine. My interest is pure fandom and so I bought almost the entire wave of series 1 products. It was a lot of money, but I don't regret it. I just have them all posed in different places on my desk and shelves.
I agree that it would be nice if the line were retooled a bit. Being able to attach the discs to their backs would be nice, and make them look less deformed around the button. I think they could just drop the light up effect from them, add articulation in the waist and improve overall articulation, add some glow in the dark or UV reactive paint, and get better head sculpts. The line would sell very well. I love the impulse projection thing, but it means the figures can't turn their heads, and the wiring inside means the articulation is restrictive. It makes them very pretty for display, but not so much for play.
They could do some exclusive, online-only figures that have what us fans want, and I think it would be very profitable. Mattel has done this with their Masters of the Universe Classics line. They listen to the fans and make the figures they are asking for with the detail they are asking for, then sell them on their own site for as long as they are in stock. Granted, you have to know when they are to be on sale and be there online to get one or they'll all be gone in a flash, but at least its something.
Spin Master has made some odd decisions on this line, but I'm sure they did so for one reason or other. They're not doing so just to deliberatly tick us off. They just have to do what is most profitable in the time alotted. I'm not saying I'm happy about what they've done, but I understand why. I do hope the toys continue to do well and that more get made that look and work better. Perhaps with the upcoming TV series and possible sequel being written, we will see.
