first the name "unknown and cray" lock into place
then scene change to clu and jarvis and you can see
the reflection

Solar sailers are not limited to traveling in a simple, straight line. They change directions by passing through - being refracted by - prism-like force fields. This can been seen when the sailer departs for the portal. The docks are in the lower level of the city. The sailer passes through a prism which puts it into a climb, then passes through another, levelling off.

You can see the "climb" prism/force field at the bottom left of this image. The sailer is already climbing.


Now, the sailer is approaching the "level off" prism.


As it passes through, it bends, or refracts, onto its new course.


As the transition completes, the sailer is no headed directly away from the camera, on a course perpendicular to the plane of the forcefield.


Earlier in this scene, when the sailer is passing through the "climb" field, the camera is tracking Flynn the elder as he walks along the sailer's catwalk. It appears passengers on the sailer have no perception of the change in direction.

According to the "Art of Tron: Legacy" those are all the names of famous computer programers. Doesn't help with the last couple names...

Finally got my copy of the art book, so now I have a complete list of the Disc Wars combatants, and just how much I missed just going off of screenshots.

As with Aurora, Hurd may be a female program, but the faces next to the names don't really match up with the characters those numbers are applied to.

No, it was a different program. Backus was combatant 1; Sam's first opponent was combatant 11. (Pike, apparently.)

Oh, you're right. I assumed Clu was pulling up the current competitors; I guess I never looked at the picture that closely.

(I'm still not 100% sure he's the same dude Sam meets on the Reco, though; the hair and lip marking are similar, but somehow the face is a bit different (plus the demeanor--Reco Dude is a lot more self-assured, whereas Baton Dude seems very nervous and even a bit goofy). But I have trouble with facial recognition at times, so I could be wrong:
