Alright, about Spark's past and her connection with Clu2, I kind of had this idea that she got zapped into the system a while ago - before Clu2 was created, and before the ISOs. Having read Betrayal and played Evolution, I do understand why Clu2 made the choices that he did. And I also understand why Flynn didn't get it. I think that Spark does get it because, like Clu2 and the other programs, she has to stay behind when Flynn heads home. Here's a scene that sort of popped into my head the other night:

The tidal movements of the Sea of Simulation were nearly always gentle, but not now. Now, as Flynn and Spark stood on a high cliff overlooking the beach, the two Users could see that the waves were strong and rough. They seemed to reflect the tension in the system. "I don't suppose you can tell me why Clu's acting so strange?" Flynn's voice had a hint of desperation in it as he stopped pacing and looked down at Spark. The younger User toyed with the end of her long braid as she tried to find a way to answer. "I think I might have an idea," she said finally. "Sit down, Flynn, and I'll try to explain."

Flynn nodded and did so, dropping, exhausted, onto a piece of rock. Spark glanced toward the glowing lights of Tron City, a contemplative expression on her face. "I suppose, when we get right down to it, it all leads back to the ISOs," she began. Flynn interrupted, almost immediately. "What about them?" he snapped. "They're a miracle! They-" he stopped when Spark held up a hand. "I don't disagree with you, Flynn," she said with a sigh. "But the ISOs don't fit into Clu's routine. He doesn't understand why they don't have a clear purpose." Flynn opened his mouth to say something, but Spark continued before he could speak. "I know, he doesn't complain that the two of us don't have a clear purpose, but we are Users, and that makes a difference. I think that in his mind, we do have a purpose, but he just doesn't understand it. Not to mention that there is a certain strain on the system, and it is being cause by the ISOs' existence. I would liken it to 'growing pains', personally, but Clu can't understand this. He's not built that way."

Flynn frowned. "Why haven't I seen this?" he asked, confused. Spark sighed again. "Because you always leave. You don't spend enough time in here to really see what's happening. I've heard you telling Clu about the gods of Greece and Rome. About Mount Olympus. And every day, when the portal starts to close, you go off, back to your Olympus, back to a world they can never see or understand. But the rest of us - Clu, Tron, Shaddox, me - we have to stay behind. To us, this is the 'real world'. It's all we've got. Is it a real wonder that Clu is exasperated with you?" Flynn had no answer.

Spark sighed again and looked at something on her wrist. The equivalent of a watch, the small device told her how much time there was before the portal would close. The younger User got to her feet. "I promised Tron I'd escort you today, and we'll be cutting things close as it is. Let's go." Spark waited for Flynn to get into his lightcycle before rezzing in her own. Side by side, the two cycles drove through the outlands, heading toward the Sailer dock and the transport that would take Flynn home.

Does this give some insight into Spark's character?
